What does your tractor start like in cold weather?

It was worse than ever today with about 15 seconds of stumbling, I didn't think it was going to stay running. It's always in an unheated pole building. It's 8-10 degrees here today and it hadn't run for a week or two. I don't have a block heater. 66-ish hours. Kubota brand recommended oil. I always start it with the throttle at idle, it runs so bad for that first 15 seconds I worry what would happen to it if it was happening at higher RPM.

What is your timing set at? There should be a sticker on the valve cover that says.

10 - 20f, no heat, 5 second glow plug, bump throttle up just a bit and starts right up with a very small puff of black smoke, idles fine, runs fine. Any colder and I don't want to be on the tractor...

Started the tractor to take the garbage down. -15.1C. Unfortunately my extension cord for the block heater is in a frozen lump of ice after our recent wacky weather:mur:.

Glowed for about 20 seconds. Tractor started right up with a puff of black. Raised idle until it smoothed out (1800RPM?). No issues.

After watching the videos I'd be willing to bet that the hard starters have some dead glow plugs.

I guess I should have taken a video but my Kubota B2620 start fine in cold weather.

I kinda have to shake my head as starting in cold weather is all about the prep. work and care / attention to the details.

Used my snowblower (60" Buhler on 3pt) on my Kubota B2620 to clean the yardsite to make parking for family during New Years Eve around my hunting / summer cabin.

Temp was -38c (-36f) and with windchill it was closing in on -51c (-60f) so actually colder here than the North pole!

In an unheated - detached storage shed I gave it 90 minutes on the block heater, 60 minutes with battery charger on the battery, hit the pre-heat for 2 10 second cycles and it fires up first with throttle set at 1200 rpm.

I live in Manitoba Canada and we are in a wickedly cold snap now.

After watching the videos I'd be willing to bet that the hard starters have some dead glow plugs.

You may be right, seems odd though with nearly new tractors. It's pretty obvious there's a couple of cylinders misfiring at first, the smoke puffs are intermittent as a cylinder misfires here and there.
