That should be a one way hydraulic valve. The hydraulic line to the top pipe fitting. Pull the black knob to actuate and then it will work with your regular lift control. You'll see one on my NAA in this pic.

I had a front plow on mine, which worked pretty good, although, I put lighter hydro oil in, as it took a while to come back down, in the winter. A return line might be do-able. ??
The diverter valve will divert the power from the 3pt to the loader, snowplow or whatever you want. You will be able to use only one at a time but can switch back and forth with no problem. the 3pt lever is used to operate both. I have one i use on my 950 one arm loader with trip bucket and it works good.

As I have been degreasing the tractor, I noticed a plug with a screw driver slot, behind the diverter valve assembly. I wondered is this might be for a return line? Or is it an adjustment for the draft control detent or something?

i've told you:
single acting hyds don't utilize a return... they exhaust back thru the hose when the 3pt handle is dropped, and the system is unloading and exhausting... want faster drop.. lower engine rpms.
as for that slotted head.. under it are an oring, spring and ball. notice it is right over the draft control arm...
