What does this do? Found disconnected.

When I was replacing the HST filter on the step side of the tractor - L5030 - I noticed the "thing" I am pointing to disconnected. It was hanging down and I found this place to connect it. It fit. I can tell no difference in any of the tractor operations. Is it suppose to be connected here? What is it and what does it do? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This is a damper it prevents the HST pedal from making abrupt operation or reversing. Just looked it up in my workshop manual.

I think I have your answer. According to my manual, that thingy that got disconnected is a damper that smooths out the operation of the HST pedal/linkage. As they put it: "The damper is connecting to the HST pedal through the connecting shaft, neutral rod, and neutral holder arm [that's where the clip came off]. The damper restricts the movement of the linkage to prevent abrupt operation or reversing."

I tried to include a scan from my manual, but the computer gods aren't smiling on me tonight.

khutch and ct tree guy thanks! I think a stick popped it off. It went on kind of hard and the rubber insert had a grove in it that kind of popped into place. I was wondering if there was also a pin or clasp on the outside or does the the picture look like yours?

EDIT: I just walked out to the shed, (It sure is nice to finally walk out to the shed instead of checking it out next weekend!) and there is a cotter pin on the shaft. The rubber bushing must have given way enough to slip over the attaching pin.
