What do you use for diesel transfer storage?

I use a 100 gal steel tank with a fuel pump and nozzle. Tank has a couple of 3x6 tubes welded to the bottom so I can fork it into the pickup and I set it on a custom dolly in the barn to roll it into the using place.

I like that and may steal your idea.

55gal drums used for ATF and the sort are almost free on craigslist and marketplace. I have a 12v pump that goes into the bung hole. When the oil guy comes around, I have him fill 2 drums as well as the oil tank.

I like the tube stock where you can slide your pallet forks under the unit, then put on the dolly in the shop. I’ve been strapping mine to a pallet.

I bought a used 100 gallon tank with a 12v pump and made a dolly, very similar to scootrs setup. It came with a 1" hose and did not have swivels at either end of the hose making it prone to kinking. I added swivels and it made a big improvement but the hose is very stiff and will not coil for storage. I don't have any experience with replacement hoses, would a 3/4" be much more flexible? Anything to stay away from?

If you don't need the higher flow rate, 3/4" hose is more flexible. I would not use steel reducers; brass or stainless are probably better choices.

Tractor Supply sells fuel hoses. You could stop by for a look, and see what you think. My guess is that your hose is older and transfer hoses do get stiff over time. There are some hoses that are marketed as being "flexible", but I would file it as perhaps "more flexible". Good fuel hose will always have grounding wire built in, so it will be stiffer than regular hose, and more like hydraulic hose.

I also use the John Dow 58 gallon with pump. I added a battery.
Put it in a cart that I pull with my lawn tractor to my diesel generator.
2 2" straps live under it so I can pick it up with my forks if I need to load it into my truck.

The tubes make it very safe to handle the tank with the risk of it sliding around or off the forks as the fuel shifts. The dolly allows me to move it around once it is off loaded. Been working pretty good. I use 2-300 hundred gallons a year.
