What do you use for a fuel transfer tank?

If you have forks and tractor capacity; I have a 125 gallon round horizontal tank on a 6' tall platform and use gravity to fill my tractor and garden tractor. I just use a ball valve at the end of the 10' 3/4" fuel hose for supply.

The tank is cabled to a saddle that can be lifted from truck or trailer, transported to the stand and then it is open for business. I usually get 75-100 gallons of diesel at a time.

I despise lifting and holding 5 gallon cans to fill the tractors.

I do it easy and cheap. Have 2 std 55 gal tanks.
When I need diesel --load the empty one on my ex-Uhaul truck, take it to station and fill it. When I get home back it up to other empty tank on ground and transfer fuel. Use Harbor freight pump to transfer from tank to tank and tank to dozer. Works fine! Drums not vented. Drums sit outside on 4x4's. Hear "pop" with heat expansion but no problem.

You do know you can add a antigel (like power service) to your oil in your tank to keep it from freezing. The cost would probably be less than $20 for a 250 tank. As for a tank to hold off road diesel, I use a 55 gallon drum and keep the cap on the 3/4" bung when not in use. It's on a wooden pallet with some harbor freight casters to make rolling it around easy. If the weight of it full is too much for you and there' enough room in your garage you can always get a second one and fill them half full. As long as they are tided down well on your trailer it's not a problem.

If you have a welder (mig or tig would be easier) you can do like I did. I got a locking ring for the top of a drum and welded individual chain links to it. The ring is used for drums that are open top to hold the lid on. My drum doesn't need the ring since the lid (or top) is crimped on and the only access is through the two bung holes. With the ring you are not welding directly to the drum so you are not potentially messing with the seal or possibly burning a hole though the drum while welding. I used the type that uses a bolt, not a lever, to lock it onto the drum. A strap easily hooks to the chain link so the drum is firmly secure. They come in different thicknesses, I went with 12 gauge.

For years I used a drum and this hand pump. I punctured the drum a while back and said boy, I am lucky to have never done t his before. I finally bought a tank, mounted it on a pallet that I can put anyplace on or off the truck or in the shop, where ever I want and not be busting my butt moving some drum around.

I wished I had done this before.

Haven't read all this thread but here is my solution. Same 50 GL square tank as logger above. Added wheels plus ability to lift w/FEL forks. Hand pump and 10 Micron water absorbing canister filter. When lifting be sure to tie on as it is top heavy. Lost one once because of not tieing done, steel to steel slides easy. I have one for Gasoline and one for diesel. Treat both with supplements when filling.

If I was gonna spend as much money as some of these solutions, I'd just buy the Enduraplas with a quality pump and nozzle included, and call it a day.

Plus, 12vdc pump and you can fuel remotely.

I bought this little pump on the internet.
It really surprised me as to its capability, price and compact design.

So far it has fitted into every container that I use.
One plus is that it self drains back so no mess.

And WOW, just $10.00

Only problem is finding a decent hose as fuel seems to cause poly to harden.
I am trying silicone based heater hose and so far it looks good.

55 gallon plastic drum with Harbor Freight pump in the shed right next to where the Kubota sits. Modified the aluminum HF strainer by cutting the supplied fitting and adding enough aluminum pipe to go down in the drum. One of the real weldor guys TIG'd it for me at work. I wanted to leave it set up and not with the hose permanently dangling in the fuel. The hose does have two different-looking layers. I'm trusting the inner layer is fuel resistant enough, but didn't want to take a chance on having something evil leach out of the outer layer. Wired the female end of the plug into the tractor.

Our local grocery stores give gas/diesel points with purchases - including gift cards. We buy ourselves gift cards to restaurants we like, Lowes, etc. There's a 20 gallon limit at one store and 25 at the other. When we cash in the points I take 4 or 5 cans to the station and fill them up. A couple Christmases back we got 25 gallons for $0.00. When I get back with the fuel, I use a big funnel with a built-in strainer to dump the cans into the barrel. I can easily handle the cans that way. It's a lot better than the circus act I had been doing, climbing onto the front tractor tire with a can and trying to fill the tractor without slopping or rubbing the can on the hood. Wet or snowy days were especially challenging for me. Would have been entertaining to watch I suppose.
