You raise a good point. I probably should pick up supplies for my next fluid change even though I'm not due right now. It probably will will save me more than that buck a gallon.

Not trying to start a argument here but I'm just wondering how environmental friendly is a waste oil burner?

Two years ago, I could have been some help. My neighbor took out the one he was using at his gas station. The insurance company raised his premium by almost 50% because of the waste oil heater. Apparently, they consider them to be a significant fire hazard. He got quotes from other insurers but in the end, it was cheaper to replace the heater.
Too bad. It was a place to get rid of some of my used oil.

I think this depends on the alternatives. The used oil has to go somewhere.
My local Kubota dealer has two burners that were installed 6 years ago. They are complicated pieces of machinery to be sure. When operating properly, there is no visible smoke in the exhaust. The owner told me they are inspected regularly to meet certain requirements.
They are also difficult to maintain. One of the burners is a backup which fires up automatically when the main unit malfunctions. Whenever I'm over there, it seems someone is always working on one of them.
I'm sure waste oil burners do pollute to some extent but they are certainly more friendly to the environment than dumping the oil on the ground. Proper recycling would be the least offensive method.

Pretty sure if you turn over the package an N95 mask comes in it says "Warning, this product is known in the United States to cause California"
Interesting, I was looking at a few sellers of the unit and they did mention cleaning a few times 1-2 time a year but I wonder if that isnt' more like 1-2 times a month. Wondering if this is worth the hassle. NG is so ... Easy

My BIL had one in his old shop; he had it so it dripped from a 30 gallon barrel. Burned hotter than the hades of hell. Twas nothing to get the sides of the stove red hot.
Temps = 1/emissions. The higher the temps, the lower the emissions.

I think they burn pretty clean. I’d have to think using up waste oil while not consuming other fuels is an environmental win.
My father-in-law used to own a Texaco gas station. He took all the old oil from car oil changes and filtered it thru a roll of toilet paper by plugging the core and letting letting it filter thrui the roll to remove the particles and sludge. Then he added it to the oil tank for the building heater. Not sure what he did with the roll after. Probably put it in a barrel with other trash to burn.
