Ratchet set along with other basic hand tools, extra fluids for the truck, chains, binders, tow strap, ratchet straps, skil saw, extension cords, drop light, jumper cables, bottle jack and some extra "roadside emergency truck parts" I have acquired over the years.

Never had a box in the bed of the more than dozen trucks I have owned but do have one mounted on my trailer. It has straps, 2 Jack stands, chains, binders, straps, extra light bulbs, zip ties, bungee cords, one extra set of bearings wit a seal races pre packed with a tub of grease, ect.

In all my trucks I carry a 12 volt compressor, tire plug kit, 12*12 cheap blue tarp, $30 Wal-Mart tool set, 12 ton bottle Jack, few pieces of cribbing, bungee cords, ratchet straps, gloves, flash light, and a folding 4 way lug wrench.

In the truck I also carry a full bearing set do my boat.

In my 4wd truck with a front winch my tool box includes extra recovery equipment including snatch blocks 3 7/8" D rings, tree saver, 2 straps. Hi-lift jack, various chain chunks etc Plus every fluid on the truck (gear oil, water, engine oil)

I have a mobile set of tools in a canvas bag that is complete. (most would call it a full home shop set) that tool bag goes with me in what ever vehicle im driveing. it also includes a tire plug kit as well as misc wireing tools.

In the box on my equipment trailer i carry a bottle jack, fold up 4 way, blocking, chains, binders, wd40, duct tape. usually a few misc tools like a ball peen hammer, channel locks, pry bar.

Every one of my vehicles (cars, trucks, vans etc) has at a minimum its own roll of duct tape, flash light, fire extinguisher, jumper cables, tow strap with hooks, (the truck and van get loop ends the cars get hook ends) and first aid kit of some sort (the kit size varries), at least one pair of jersey gloves, and usually a couple pair of latex type gloves (these are separate from any the first aid kit may contain). going into winter season each vehicle will get its winter E-bag checked out (containing a blanket, hand warmers, glow sticks, second flashlight, FRS radio with batteries (not installed) etc)

some carry more than others but the above list is a min of what each has. (for instance my van has a triangle kit, my truck has road flares)

But how do you keep your hands warm when you're pushing it in the winter?

Nice Nelson, very nice....I guess I would say my favorite tool is a tie. My Sears wrenches or my SOG belt knife.

No tool box here either..I generally carry jumper cables, a recovery strap, a set of ratchet tie-downs and various pairs of gloves. I never need any of them except for the occasional jump start of a car at work every so often and hauling big stuff from the Home Despot.

Used to carry a 12v compressor, but kinda forgot to put it in the new truck...Note to self.

I forgot, I also carry two straps, 1 with hooks and one with loops. I also have a 6' piece of chain with a snap hook on one end and a grab hook on the other.

Ya these days I manage to drag my cell phone and my triple A card out to my truck. After that I'm pretty worn out so I call it good. :)

I carry loose (sorta) tools in the truck but made a 12 x 36 steel tool box from 1/8" plate for the trailer to carry chains, snatch blocks, hyd jack and misc tools for parbuckling logs onto the trailer. My idea was to weld it to the trailer A frame but it was so heavy (300+ lbs) when loaded that it added to much tongue weight to my 1500 RAM. So I empty it, put it in the truck, reload it when I need to pick up a log. Not a very satisfactory solution. The hitch has a tongue weight of 500 lbs and I think the truck will support a bigger hitch but I haven't pursued that yet.

starting fluid
grease gun for trailer bearing buddies
spare trailer bearings
rags
adjustable trailer hitch with assortment of ball sizes
tow strap
bungee cords
tie downs

Probably some other junk I can't think of right now...

The OP question borders on asking a lady what she carries in her purse....

Usual stuff: Ratchet straps, 4 way tire tool, jumper cables, tarp, rope, socket set, 1 7/8 hitch, 2 inch hitch; gloves; flashlight stays in the truck cab.

plus assorted special project tools--cordless drill, bag full of carpenter's hand tools, recip saw, circular saw, orbital sander, drywall tools; hearing protection; safety goggles, paint brushes....

Nothing in my ford..... My airplanes? Well that is a different story..... Being broke down in the Canadian bush is not fun...

Ratchets, sockets, wrenches basic hand tools. Then a whole bunch of straps ratchets with hooks and loops. 3 recovery straps, tire chalks, a milk crate full of 2 stroke oil, diesel 911, coolant gear oil, engine oil, and lastly jumper cables. Fire extinguisher might be a good thing to have.

We don't have a toolbox but in the truck we carry:

3 2" x 27' ratchet straps
4 1' x 15' ratchet straps
A 200' piece of rope
2 50' pieces of rope
Some shorter rope
Many bungee cords
A few rags
A lug wrench
A fire extinguisher
Jumper cables
3 or 4 tarps
Flashlights
A blanket

I think that is about it. It is all either under the back seat or behind it.

This crew cab F350 I have has so much interior space that a toolbox is not needed unless you want to carry a chainsaw or fuel can. Under the seats and in the doors I have benadryl, gas-x, TP!!! (should be on everyone's list), an very effective LED flashlight to replace my stupidly huge maglight, fire extinguisher, binoculars, state gazette book (map), folding army shovel, hatchet, jumper cables, first aid kit, socket set, spider cargo net, a stowed front license plate (in case the cops pull me over for not having it mounted), 30' tow strap, full quality raingear, white hard had, orange vest, blanket, ski gloves, and a pair of those atlas style blue rubber palmed gloves. There are several candy/power bars stashed in the truck but no liquid.

Lots more stuff that I don't even remember. All out of sight and stowed. The fords have good jacks and lug wrench gear. When I tow the trailer I throw a star wrench in the bed along with the trailer spare tire. Chains and binders are too heavy to drive around with so they stay at home.
