Newbie here! Need some recommendations for my upcoming purchase. The one thing I am sure of is that I want green:D ! Other than that, this is where I need some help...

My property is around 11 acres in size. The land is all open field with no obstacles. The one end of the field has a fairly steep hill on which I am building my house. The hill encompasses probably 3-5 acres of the total field. The rest of the field is relatively flat, "average" field. I plan on finish mowing approximately 7-8 acres (the normal weekly basis) with the remaining couple of acres just being "brush hogged" a few times a year. I really have no other uses or intentions for my purchase other than mowing as I already have a snow plow on my truck, so snow removal isn't a concern. I have had recommendations ranging from the X748 Diesel 4x4 Garden Tractor up to the 3320. I definitely prefer hydrostatic as I am not really "tractor inclined". My local JD dealer is really pushing the X748. He says it would serve my needs fine however I do not like the idea of no ROPS. In addition, a brush hog cannot be run with this unit either, correct?

Any help or suggestions to steer me in the right direction is greatly appreciated! I am new to anything bigger than your average lawn mower so this is all new, uncharted territory for me! Thanks!

A 3320 or 3520 with a 84" rear finish mower would work, add a cab if you have the money. That will be alot of mowing though. JC

I was thinking 7-8 acres is alot to mow, then I figured between the three places I mow, I'm mowing about 6.5 acres a week. That is when we get rain. I mow with 62" cut x495, which is similar to the new x700's. JC

I like the idea of the cab (with the a/c & heat) but unfortunately, I don't think it will fit in my garage as I have 8' high doors & I think the cab tractors are higher than this. My biggest thing is I just don't know which series (big garden tractor, CUT, etc.) to go with...

A JD 2520 is right in the middle. It is a big little tractor, capable of finish/rough mowing, a backhoe, yet is small and not very intimidating.

That was one of the models I had given consideration to. Models I have been considering are: X748, 2520, 3120 or 3320, 2305 and the Z997 diesel ZTrak (not sure how it would be on the hill though).

I also looked at (& had given serious consideration to purchasing) the 3203 until a little more in depth research revealed that this model probably wouldn't be best suited for my particular needs.

I definitely think you need a CUT and not a X748 to cut 7-8 acres unless you have a lot of time on your hands! If there are no obstacles then the 84" RFM would be perfect for your use. I also think that a loader (FEL) would be indispensable with that much property.

Just my .02$

Which model # would you recommend based on your experience?

You'll have no problem fitting the cab. They are lower than the non cabs (Although the cabs don't fold). I have a 3720 cab and have plenty of clearance on my just shy of 8' door (95.4"). Somebody here gets their 4x20 series in their 8' garage also.

If it's really, really flat and you get the 3x20 series I'd go with more than an 84" RFM you can get up to around 110" before you have to go with a wing mower.

In all honesty, even any of the 2000 series would be good for mowing also as long as you can mow fast. :) I used to mow 5 acres with my 2305 (now I mow it with my 3720) and the 2305 used to fly with the 62C MMM. Used to take me maybe 1hr 45 mins including the front yard if I didn't have to vacuum and bag. That was full out (close to 9mph) in high range for most of it) :)

I do love the cab on the 3720 though and if $$ isn't an issue go with the 3x20 (or even 4x20) :) series. (Although sounds like you have no need for the 4x20 series).
