I think the 800 series were followers of the 8N series. My dad had an 861 in the mid to late 50s IIRC, traded in his 8N on it. The 861 had live PTO but not sure about the 801.
Soundguy will surely chime in soon on this, he is the Ford expert.

the NAA was the followup to the 8n, after the NAA then came the hundred series.. 600, 700, 800, 900. middle digit denotes tranny options. 4,5,6

4 = 4spd, non live pto
5=5spd, non live pto
6=5 spd, live pto.

other numbers available depending on options.. etc.

An '801' is a series after the '00' series.

here are the year model line ups.

( model year )

39-42 9n

42-47 2n

48-52 8n

52-54 naa

55-57 00 series ( 600, 700, 800 etc. )

58-62 01 series ( 601, 701, 801, etc.. )

63-64 000 4 cyl thousand series 2000/4000

series numbers have no tranny identifier. IE.. 801 Model numbers have a tranny identifier IE.. 841 ( an 801 which is a 172ci gas, diesel ( post 58 ) or LPG engine with a 4 spd non live tranny, made 58-62

Collectively, the 55-62 models are called hundred series or broken down to subgroup as hundred and '01 ' series.

Post any numbers you CAN read fromt he bellhousing. As kirk said could be an 871.

Also.. look at the tranny number.. is it the old orc or new ddc SOS .

Also.. what is the block id casting number?

Trans casting #'s indicate early ORC trans

Then id think it an 871 for sure vs the 4000

Looks like someone changed out the nose piece and added the thousand series grill and thousand series bumper but the doglegs are still 801.

These are all the photos I could find on castings. The type and serial numbers are currently unreadable.

I'm sorry I didn't post these up at first but I had my hip replaced Thursday and just could read the computer with all the drugs.:dance1:

Some of my thoughts.

The big oil bath breather reminds me of one's I seen on 4000 pictures.
The hood could be a mix of 800 and 4000 parts.
It has a 540 PTO as far as I can tell not 540 1000 that is marked?
This thing looks like it would cost a couple thousand to get it up and running. Since I like 8n 's I've only rebuilt one other tractor, a 641. With that my rebuild estimate may be way off.

As usual, any feedback I appreciated!

try soaking the pistons and rings down with trans fluid at least 3-5 days soaking each day. then try rocking over by hand both ways. a mechanic is more needed here. just a wanna be.

Put your hand in the starter, move it back a few inches.. That's where the #'s we need will be.

Sound guy I found this in the file also. I've yet to find a serial number. I will be able to drive to the ranch again and dig around some more in three weeks. Thanks for looking.

From what I can see the trans casting date code would make it a 1959. This would make it the early ORC trans, freewheeling, indicated by the slash marks on the shifter window. If you look at the pto shaft you will notice that there in no hole in the center with an allen head bolt which was used to change the shaft end out from 540 to fine spline 1000 pto shaft.
The model number will be posted above the serial number in your last photo. Your last photo showing number looks cropped and may not be complete number. Check it again. One of the problem with the diesels is the battery box extended out over that area because it was a bigger 12 volt battery and a lot of times leak down on to the numbers so you might not be able to read them.
If the traction lever was not turn in the off position to disengage the trans from the rear drive before being moved it could have caused further damage to the trans. Non running SOS trannys can cost any where from a couple of dollars to about $3000 for a complete rebuild.
With lock up engine and unkown condition of the SOS you might be looking at well over a couple thousand in repairs. I would try to free up the engine and get it started than look into trans issues.
