What are you paying for ground beef

Around here ground beef is rapidly approaching 8 bucks a pound at the grocery store. I have never bought any meat from a grocery store we have always raised our own or bought from the Amish. My Amish guy that I get beef from just raised his price to $4.25 per pound for ground or $2 bucks for a quarter or half and $1.75 whole is he staying in line with the rest of the country. I can raise my own for sun 3 bucks and am debating going to the auction and getting a few dozen steers

Can usually buy it in bulk (around 8 lbs) for around $4/lb now (80% lean). I wait until they mark it down on the expiration date, then freeze it.

$4/lb. family pack 80% burger, $4.77/lb. tri-tip, $3.35/lb. bacon. I bought boneless chuck pot roast for $3.89/lb. last week. We're fortunate to have a ranching economy and a USDA inspected slaughterhouse here. The big packers have a hard time competing. Prime boneless ribeye is $9/lb. Red snapper $7.99, ling cod $12.99. Crawdads are free for the picking.

if you are looking at ORGANIC, pasture grass raised and grass finished, 1yr+10 months, hanged for 14 to 21 days, then yes you can see $8 or $9 in my area for Black Angus crossed with American Aberdeen.

If you just want the general raise a calf to nearly 2 years old raised on a mix of grasses and GMO feeds, dozens of shots, standing in dung packed like sardines in the barn 1/2 their life, processed quickly and into the freezer without a care for nutrition, flavor or off packaging, then yes, $4 to $6 in my area.

I stopped eating much beef 25 years ago to help control my cholesterol. Sometimes though, there's nothing like a good steak or burger. That worked well for about 22 years... now I'm finally on meds and they tell me pork is just as bad after all.
