I pretty sure what your are seeing is where the farmer has disced or plowed along the water control berms. Pretty typical around my neck of the woods.

That makes sense to me -- the darker contours (berms/terraces) have been tilled, the lighter contours have not. I was trying to figure out whether the differences in shade could be due to shadows, but the shade differences did not seem consistent with that explanation (at least to my eye).
