Have you heard about this App.?
It's a new way of telling someone exactly where you are, within a 3 meter square area anywhere in the world
Here's how it works:
  • Location Identification:
The app divides the world into 3m x 3m squares, and each square is assigned a unique combination of three words.

  • Easy Sharing:
These three-word addresses are easy to say, share, and remember, making it simpler to communicate precise locations.

    • Navigation:
You can input a what3words address into the app, which will then guide you to that specific location using your preferred navigation app (like Google Maps or Apple Maps).
    • Saving Locations:
You can save your favorite locations with their corresponding three-word addresses for easy access later.
    • Emergency Services:
what3words is used by emergency services to quickly locate people in need, especially in areas with inaccurate or non-existent street addresses.
The app is available in over 60 languages and is compatible with various navigation apps. It's a useful tool for a wide range of purposes, from finding meeting points to helping emergency responders locate individuals in need.

Every smart phone built in the last 10 years has GPS circuitry built in and can be used as a standard GPS unit by downloading your choice of app. Be it an Android or iPhone unit, they can give you your location on planet earth to within 30 feet (usually a lot closer), and no app is needed to access your own GPS coordinates. As a member of a Search and Rescue unit I try to teach this to as many people as I can. It is simple for SAR to find someone if we have your coordinates.

My first reaction is, why did they create this app and what data on you do they collect to pay for the app?

There have been some pretty negative reviews about it.

And besides, it's pretty hard to beat 6 decimal place coordinates for accuracy.

For example, the center of the universe....

37.133260,- 81.507567

Google maps offers the same addressing scheme for free.

Starlink uses it as an address.

Center of the universe?
Is that some companies advertisement?

I didn't know how easy it is to get my location ordinance until deserteagel posted a link.
