Trying to explain how you eat chow on a ship always brings disbelief from some who have never been there. If you have never held your tray at an angle with a grip on your drink in one hand and the silverware in the other hand, you just haven't experienced seagoing life. Waiting for the ship to roll level and grabbing a bite before getting a grip again is an experience. Gotta love it!

"Attention Attention, all Navy personnel, lunch will be served at 1300 hrs, that's 1300 hrs."
"For all civilians, this is 1:00."
"For all you Marines, this is when Mickey's little hand is on the one and his big hand is on the 12."

1. Army - Defends the position.
2. Marines - Storm the position.
3. Air Force - Leases with an option to buy.
4. Navy - Turns out the lights and closes the door.

THANK YOU for your service! I'm a Navy guy but learned real quick about Marines... Loved the Sunset Parades... I can't do that at all... H@$&l, when I went to boot camp, we could not ever handle a rifle. One of my best friends has two sons who are Marines... One back in Iraiq for a third tour and on in Hawii... SGT and LT... LT worked his way up from a PVT thru college. Proud of those boys! You are the MAN!

Gosh Jim, now I feel like I need to do it all over again. 20 years and never experienced anything close to that...course I got called many things by some close friends, like dirt sailor.

Guess I'll just have to settle for sand in my eggs.

Larry, the only problem with seabees is that you had to be too close to the guys shootin' at you. I should have mentioned that aboard ship, the worst meal I ever at was better than C-rats. When it got really rough at sea, they'd put out bread and cold cuts in the chow line. If you were at battle stations, they would even bring around sandwiches.

Mark: The last conventional aircraft carrier will soon be decomissioned, the USS Kitty Hawk. For the guys in the firerooms and engine rooms, that can't come too quickly. God bless snipes! They had the worst job aboard ship and largely the most thankless.
