Well storage tank ??

Hello, I presently have a deep well and pump and its fed through one of the standard blue captive air tanks. Its performs fine. but id like to have some storage for if there is a short power outage and also figure another tank would help to save the pump from cycles.
I am considering this tanks
32 Gal. Pressurized Well Tank-HT32B at The Home Depot water tank&storeId=10051
or possible a larger one.My question is. Is my understanding correct in that I could just 'hook' this anywhere int he outlet side?I would set it next to the existing tank. now.And also would the tanks being different sizes give a problem ?

Don't see where you would run into any problems anywhere along those lines. It would not greatly expand your storage capacity, but will add what it adds.

That tank is 32 gal total volume... I'm guessing you already realize that the amount of water that it can maintain at its designated pressure is much less than that? (Google for info on the net, or someone else here might know the ratio). So, you're getting very little actual additional water stored.

As far as the tanks, it sounds like you're talking about hooking them either in series or parallel to the outlets. The volume is not the important thing here, but the pressure is. Assuming that the two tanks will be pressurized by the same pump and "relieved" by a common outlet, they will always remain at equal pressures. Make sure they are both rated to be so.

I'd recommend you give your local well/pump servicer a call, and just chat with them a little telling them what you want. Let 'em know up front you're looking at the HD thing... the call is free, and I find any local outfit like this to be friendly and willing to share information.

I did a quick Google, and you're looking at 8 to 10 gallons of extra water at pressure. See the "drawdown" numbers on the little chart at this site:

I know it's a different tank, but the specs will be roughly the same for tanks of this caliber.

This show the sizing, volume of water, and actual water served up at pressure.

Moral of the story: A pressurized tank is not for storing lots of water, but rather provides a limited amount at pressure making it usable.

Our system has a lot more volume stored by being hooked up like this:
well + wellpump -> 500 gallon cistern -> pump from cistern to pressure tank -> large pressure tank (like an 85 gal... 220 gallon equivalent) -> lines into home. The downside is this requires the cistern and another pump, and all has to be powered, protected from freezing, etc.

Again, do what meets your needs! :thumbsup:

Two wells. One on a timer. One automatic with float shutoff, both going to 1,500 gal tank, one line gravity fed to the water needs in the barn and stock tanks. 50 gal. Pressure tank feeds the house. House is double plumbed for non-potable water if needed to laundry, toilets and showers. We have Arsenic and Mercury in the area ground water. The levels are borderline. Some family's have been drinking this water for generations with no problem.

Put the small and larger tanks in series so there is no stagnant water sitting around. Size the larger tank to your budget or space available.:thumbsup:

I'm going with a similar idea but on a slightly larger scale. My well will pump into four 2500 gal tanks, and from one of those I will feed the pressure tanking the house. :thumbsup:

Maybe it's more than slightly larger.

A pressure tank is not real good in a power outrage.

Mount a large 300 / 400 gallon tank several feet 12' /14' above ground level.

Enough water pressure for most house hold use and plenty of water for your animals.

Just my 2cents worth. Some clean 5 gal buckets in a storage room or under the house. You could have more gallons to use than another tank would offer. There are even some poly bladder tanks available that hold hundreds of gallons.
