Well Pump Handle information?

The old dairy farm restoration continues. Outside the farm house sits a still functional well pump.

Notice the handle? It is a wooden broom stick bolted on.

It is a Novelty NO. 106 from "Hess-Synder CO", "Massillono, OHIO"

I'd like to find an original handle. -or-
Did they not come with one?

Any pointers appreciated.

You could make your own that would be a Little sturdier than a broomstick.

That broomstick is solid oak, maybe circa 1920.

The pump handle was replaced for safety reasons. One too many children stuck their tongue to it. The Product Safety Commission requires that all new pumps be equipped with handles to which a tongue cannot stick in freezing weather. If you replace the pump handle with an original, you will be opening yourself up to a lawsuit if some unsuspecting youngster sticks his tongue to it.

Not trying to be Mr. Smarty pants here, but, Wouldn't a child more likely stick there tongue to the spout end where the water comes out? I just don't get it. The Product Safty Commission makes the handle safe and the rest of it can be steel? Cheers
