Welding sproket

Hi....I need to weld a 4 inch sproket (for 40 chain) on a 1 inch shaft. All I have is a stick welder. How much of a warp problem can I expect on the sproket? I would guess the shaft will be ok. Any suggestions on what kind of welding rod to use? This shaft is off a 47inch JD snow blower.

Why don't you want to key it and use set screws repair will be much easier.

You don't need to weld the whole circumference of the gear 3 1/2" welds on each side should hold it if metal is all new 7018 or 6011 if it is dirty
stitch one side go 180 stitch the other side keep flipping back and forth side to side it shouldn't move.

Hi......I was thinking of welding because that's the way it was done before. But can you tell me if the metal outlets or machine shops sell 1 inch shafting with keyways already cut?
