Weigh stations

/ Weigh stations #61
They had to draw the line somewhere. Generally, when I license my pickups in the past I always looked at the GVWR plate and license for the weight on it.
I got caught outside Barrie once (now remember that I have a Class A license {CDL for you 'Mericans}] a pickup loaded right to the gunnels with gravel and a box trailer on behind full of slab wood. DoT took me into Cooks scale weighed me and gave me a blast of chit, he did let me go though. His parting words were, "You know better." That was in 1976.

About 20 years ago I asked a MTO Inspector how much I could license my pickup for and he told me for whatever you want up to 63,500kgs [139,992lbs]. But by god don't get caught hauling that much. That is when I started plating to the sticker on the door.

I know a half dozen contractor's who have no idea about this either ...

I once worked for a guy that licensed his tandem dump trucks for 5,000 lbs and got away with it for years. At that time the fine for over loads was $52.50/ occurrence. His truck empty was overweight. This was before the axle weight law came out in Ontario.
Tim, I don't know where you are but if you grew up in the same 'neck of the woods' as I did, then you probably know him too.
