I believe they use air pressure to bring the drillings up from the hole.

Generally to determine the capacity or recovery rate of a well, water is pumped out and then the depth is measured. After five minutes the depth is measured again and the number of gallons divided by five is the recovery rate.

My well now recovers at a rate of five gallons a minute. I had a well at a previous house that recovered so quickly that no measure could be taken. In the spring the water would run out the top of the well. I wish I had that well now.

We have not had any problems with our well, but when our clothes washer died, we bought a high efficiency unit (15 gal/load vs ~45) It has nade a much better improvement than we hoped for... because not only do you pump that water from the well, it goes back int the septic..

We got the Sears HE (whirlpool Duet) but GE makes one as do some others....

Mike-

I intended to buy a front loader when we move in to save on water and to ease the burden on the septic system.

I was told that the washers require a special detergent. Tide HE comes to mind. Is this true? I haven't seen the special detergent in the stores so I'm wondering if I'll be able to find it when I buy the washer. Have you had any troulble finding detergent for your washer?
