Good ideas. I am willing to try anything to solve it. I have been thinking I might need to check the headbolts, maybe retourqe. This motor was built almost 20 years ago, though used very little over that long span.What I would do is add a quart of ATF to the oil and run it for about 10 minutes,to clean it out, drain the oil and filter.
Remove the valve covers and pressurize the cooling system. The head bolts on a small blocks go into the cooling system, you are suppose to coat the threads with Teflon coating to seal them. Very few people do it and even less have a problem. I had a customer have the same problem.
Start with 5 lbs, and leave it for a long time to find the leak. You may want to solvent wash the head area so the coolant is easier to see. Even put paper towels below the bolts so you can catch the coolant, and see it.
If that is not the problem, leave the oil pan plug out and remove the plugs. If the coolant comes out the oil pan it could be the head gasket, intakes will leak to the outside. Turn the motor by hand first, looking for coolant in the cylinders if there is no signs, spin it with the starter, and look for the mist.
