I have a 1967 Ford 3000, 42 HP diesel. I'm pretty sure I have water in the hydraulic fluid. When I start the tractor the hitch won't lift until after maybe 10-15 minutes. After it starts to operate it does OK. Once, I let it run for about 20 minutes and the 3 point would not lift. I killed the tractor and drained about 2 qts of fluid, which was a gray color. I topped off the fluid level with fresh fluid, started the tractor and, the hydraulics worked. The tractor just gets used occasionally but I do start it very other week if I don't use it for anything else.
My guess is that water is getting into the system via all the different nut/bolt connections, etc. It is stored outside. I do plan to start storing it inside ASAP. I'll be building a storage shed for it and other equipment. I guess that should solve the problem of the water getting into the system but, before I drain and replace all of the fluid, any suggestions on what/where to check for areas where water could be getting in?
