Washing Machine

My parents washer/dryer was in their unheated garage for their first 55 years together. As my dad gradually took over the household chores he got the idea that the garage should be converted along with heat & A/C. I think he paid dearly for waiting so long.

I'm thinking some old machines may have blocks or something heavy up under bottom.

Yes, a cinder block type thing. One of the heaviest parts was the internal drum. I couldn't believe how much that thing weighed
and now understand why people make fire pits out of them. I spent this early evening tearing it all down for the scrap yard with intent
of keeping the inner and outer drums along with the motor.

We have an LG front loader. Love it. Only 12 years old. Doesn't use much water, and gets the laundry super dry, so we don't use much energy drying. The high spin has paid for itself several times by now. It gets clothes much cleaner and dryer than the original Maytag washer, though we still have the original dryer.

Our main challenge is that the well water has a TDS of 2000; however, we do soften it. If anyone has a favorite detergent for high TDS water, I am all ears.

All the best,

Peter

Tide unscented...We don't soften ours, don't do the salt thing.

Another vote for Speed Queen. Though I consider it SWMBO's machine I've used it many times.

The best way I've found to do laundry is throw a new bright red sock in with a load of MY white underwear and use hot water. After the complaining dies down I'm banned from doing laundry for years.

Always give aways for me... Family friend bought neptune pair and gave me the Kenmore... She has replaced at least once since and would ask about the pair she gave me which are still going strong.

Mom's Kenmore Avacado Green washer/dryer from the 60's still going... I did replace the Dryer belt a few years back... less than $5

Had people mad at me for fixing things because broke was the excuse to buy new

One LG top loader (wife came up with a back problem) and one LG front loader washer. So far, so good.

Excellent strategy!

I choose the new red shop rags, myself. ;)

I was looking at some info on Speed Queen recently and they had a washer/dryer pair that had a 10 year in home warranty that was a promotion good through December 2019 only.
