Wash and WAX???????

Jay,

Summer- the Kids have a 2 seater go-cart that gets kept in the garage attached to the house with the wife's family station wagon The Bota stays in the pole barn. Winter- kids dont use the go-cart so it goes into the hog pen, and the Bota moves to the garage , it isn't heated directly, but is insulated and usually never gets below 55 degrees in the winter unless the big door is open all day.

Bota has never been kept outside, (I've never made any of my kids sleep outside either), but at one time I had my Case DC outside, and I had an old bedspread I would cover it with and then cover the bedspread with a waterproof tarp.

I really think between the elements. . . . sunlight is more of an enemy to the finish then rain or snow, while rain and ice hurt the moving parts and seals, cylinders....

I had a 1947 Case DI (was going to restore) that sat outside with no tarp for 6 months. The shifter boot (rubber seal in the gearshift lever) looked in good condition. . . but actually had a few hundreths gap. When it would rain, water would drip from the steering wheel to the shift levet and follow the lever to the boot, making its way to the transmission. It then displaced the gear oil and filled the gear case to the top (in less than 6 months). The first hard freeze and the gear case cracked, (top cover popped off). Ended up parting out the DI.

So yes, I keep all outdoor stored equipment covered, including my 2 bottom plow, and my disk harrow.

I use some stuff called Wesleys Bleach White. Same theory as your stuff. Spray it on, use a bristle brush or rag, rinse it off and WOW!. Also works good on wheel covers.

I'm at a loss for a name too. Seems like it was easier to come up with names for the children than for the Bota. . . . .I guess when it happens, we will know it!

Re: Broke my foot!

Pete, that's a real bummer /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I broke my ankle a couple of years ago and turned it into an opportunity to buy implements! I couldn't push the fertilizer spreader, so I got a pull behind model for my lawn tractor. Maybe you can use your foot to your (tractor's) advantage /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Does anyone wash the engine? I keep the tractor wash and waxed but don't know if it is ok to get the engine wet.

James, I use a product called PURPLE POWER and I spray that on first and then wash off the motor. It removes all the dirt and grease that might have built up on it. If you do it all the time it will always look like new. The water will not hurt it one bit.

I haven't washed my engine... yet. It won't hurt the engine to get it wet but I'd watch two things: Don't wash it when it's hot. The cold water hitting hot engine parts could be a problem. Also, don't use a power washer. It could force water into seals, gaskets, electical connections etc. If I ever do wash the engine, I'll probably attack it with a bucket of soapy water and brushes of various sizes then rinse with a gentle shower of water from the hose.

Are you going to wax the rocker covers /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob, Von, Thanks for the info. No, I don't think I will wax the rocker covers. thanks again.

I wash the engine every time I wash the exterior, which is just about every time the tractor gets dirty./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Most of the time just with the spray nozzle on the garden hose (about 80 psi), but sometimes with my hydro air gun (hook the garden hose to one inlet and a 90 psi air hose to the other).

Boondox,
That's all that matters. Clementine needs her exercise. Let her do the work.

RobS,
The Doc gave me Prednisone for my poison ivy which is a steroid. It quickly dryes and reduces the swelling of the poison ivy. Because I had it in my nose and around my eyes I felt that benedryl wasn't powerful enough. I believe in the Off Subject chat they talk about several differnt over the counter drugs the work quite well. On top of Benedryl I also use Rhuli Gel. A clear liquid that reduces swelling and dryes poison ivy. I hope this helps. Good luck

Re: Broke my foot!

Boondox,
I think I will put a cast on so all outdoor work envolves Jezebel. She gets lonely outside during the week. I only have 13 hours on her and have had her for close to a month. The beers won't hurt either.

Von,
Where do you get that Engine Wash Purple Power? I can't seem to find it at the local auto parts store.

Jason,
I get it at my local auto parts store. It might be in
BJ's or SAMS club as well. Its pretty cheap, 2 1/2 gal. for 8 bucks. I use it on everything, cut it with water 50-50 and it works great on getting the mower deck clean, as well as the BBQ. hunt around for it, I think you will like the way it works.

I don't know about Engine Wash Purple Power - but I came home the day before yesterday and found purple crayon all over my BX. One of my 2 year olds decided it was coloring time and snuck out to the garage I guess. I hear WD40 works well for crayon - I'll let you know ... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Von,
I will find it thanks. The way you describe it's cleaning ability has got me on the hunt. Jezebel likes to be cleaned after she gets dirty. If there were only a cleaning agent for me.

When we were building six years ago, my daughter (then 5) was sent to the trash with the old paint brush I had been using. On the way to work the next day, I was pulled over by the State Police as "somebody" had painted over my lisense plate and part if the bumper in the back with white enamel. When I saw it I started laughing and explained to the trooper and he let me go, making me promise to have HER clean it up that night. Yes, better you had crayon.
