That does sound like a frustrating problem.

I've had a very different experience from yours - I've bought large amounts of material at Home Depot, then came back later to pick it up with no issues. I've also had some it delivered with no issues (and these are $5,000 and $10,000 lots of stuff - lumber, appliances, doors, windows, etc - and that is definately A LOT of money for me). My Dad has probably spent three or four times that much over the course of several years and has never had a problem. I do recall that one time, the opposite of your problem happened to him - I bought alot of lumber, took some of it with him and the rest was going to be delivered (he brought home some studs and OSB in his truck). When the rest of the order was delivered, he discovered that they brought more studs and OSB (the same amount he had already brought home). He was honest enough to send it back to the store, so no harm no foul - but it is obvious there is some kind of communication disconnect that can happen during the will call/delivery process.

I wish you the best of luck with the resolution to your problem.

MrJimi, no offense, but if you've explained your problem to the people you've talked to at HD as well as you've explained the problem in this thread, it's no wonder you havn't received any satisfaction.

It sounds like;

1. You purchased 36 sheets of plywood.
2. Could not take any (all?) with you at the time of purchase.
3. Came back later, with your receipt, to pick them (the rest?) up.
4. HD people would not give you any plywood because they had no way of knowing you didn't already have them.

Is this correct?

Sounds about right to me:
Seems the perfect way for HD or any other enterprise to beat consumers out of their money also.

With a Will Call, the Customer signs off on the paper work stating that they picked up the item(s).

We had a large Will Call that was pages long. I did not pick up all of the items at one time but as needed. Myself and the cashier went carefully over what I was getting and made sure it was checked off of the Will Call. Both to keep me from getting ripped off and to keep HD from getting ripped off.

Later,
Dan

Note: I am NOT implying this is what MrJimi is trying to do.

The only way I see this getting resolved is for the local HD store to do a plywood inventory. They have to have 36 more sheets in stock than what they sold.

One evening a few years ago I went to Home Depot to buy somethings. One item I really needed that night, the others were for the next day. I did what I need to finish that night, but the next day I couldn't find most of the items I'd bought. I looked all over and finally came to the conclusion that I must have left them in the cart at Home Depot.

I went back there and asked if anybody had turned in a bag of items found in the parking lot. I know it was a long shot, but I still needed those things and if nobody had turned them in, than I needed to buy them again.

One of the Home Depot empolyees did find a bag the previous evening and had brought it back, but before the store opened, they had been restocked.

I spoke to the store manager, showed him my receipt and told him what items I had at home and what I was missing. He said for me to go get the items I was missing and let me have them.

I've had my share of frustation with Home Depot, but they are also just people working there who can be good and bad. In my case, I got lucky and dealt with a really good manager. I continue to shop there when I'm in the area, but prefer Lowes or McCoys for selection and location.

With Mr. Jimi, I feel he's either gonna have to find the person he talked to about not taking all the plywood he bought, or wait until they do inventory. I understand his frustration, but it sounds like he didn't get anything in writing that he was only taking part of his purchase. If so, there would be a person's name on the paperwork with what was taken and what was left.

I've picked up partial loads on several occasions and have always found that the employee who's helping me will either give me a list of what I've picked up and what is still owed me, or they have marked it on my reciept. It's too late to undo what wasn't done the first time, so it's gonna be a waiting game of working with the store to resolve the dispute. To me, they didn't mess up since they were not asked to put in writing what was taken and what was left behind. All the reciept says is what was bought and paid for. If it had the other information on it, there shouldn't be a dispute.

Good luck,
Eddie

It is highly unusual that they would restock them without first inventorying them and putting that inventory into a "lost and found" folder. It is not unusual that people leave items in carts and for them to make there way back into the store. By inventorying them and your showing your receipt, they would "balance" and the store would know that your claim was correct.
This is an additional reason why they ask for identification when you return an item without a receipt. If a person found your basket and did a return of the items for credit, they also track this information.

A quick read of this posting (and replies) would seem to yield a simple answer.

Wait until thier inventory cycle runs and lay claim to your 36 sheets of plywood.

-or-

Find that person that will work with you to educate their staff that all customer orders (will calls) must be signed by an in store employee.

Our local store does not operate like this, and on more than one instance I have found myself returning to pick up merchandise I could not load on my truck. As I left, I found an employee to sign off that I would be back to pick up leftovers.

sorry about that- hit the submit too soon. It sounds like Mr Jimi got just a plain old receipt, not a will call. So of course the manager is going to have trouble "giving him" 36 sheets of ply. BUT, Mr Jimi SHOULD be able to get someone to listen to him- and if all is as I understand it, a cashier should be retrained! It is very frustrating to wade thru the big box maze in the best of times, but a little bit of honey can go a long way. I would hope that Mr J can find a way to get his situation explained, and resolved.
Take a deep breath, try to keep the emotions in check, and keep dialing!

dusty, like I said, I purchased $1,500 dollars of their crap.!! I could not bring 36 sheets of 3/4 Plywood home the same day.. I got a ( will call ) thing that says , and I have not!! I have to bring in the receipt when I pick up the rest of the order.
What part of that did you not get??
Why do I smell hd mgr here??
I want a mod or admin to close this thread and like I have said.. I will take care of this..
dusty, do you have the money to reinburse me so I can shut up??
We are out almost $1,000 dollars and This will not happen.
If not , please step aside.
Why do I smell Mcmgr here??
Jim:mad:

I think that I have this one partially figured out. He got a "will call" slip at the purchase time, and the "will call" slip was closed out, I am assuming. I have gleaned this from his "I have not!!". He then goes on to say that "I have to bring in the receipt when I pick up the rest of the order." Here is where it gets muddy again. I will assume that when he returned with the receipt, he didn't have the "will call" sheet and they won't give him any additional merchandise without that slip. What happened to that slip is still a part of the mystery. Did he turn it in, or did he loose it? Until he cools off sufficiently to post all the facts in some cognizant chronological order, I don't think that there is going to be any resolution to this problem. If he has presented his case to the store manager the way that he has presented it here, I can understand why he can't get any satisfaction. Once you loose your "cool" with the store manager, all is lost and he/she will not want to deal with you any further. That, in my estimation, is why he got the 800 number pass off. He is just too hostile to deal with in a store enviorment.
