walking steep metal building roof

In addition to all the above mentioned, I always use new tennis shoes and a piece of roofing felt at the foot of the ladder.
I change into the tennies and step directly onto the felt. Then wipe my feet a few times then climb on up. It helps a lot.

Clean, dry, and extremely dust-free sneakers make all the difference! I have hatch ways in my roof that allow access from inside the attic. Years ago I installed tie in points for my climbing rope so I'm harnessed in before I hit the ridgelines. When warmer weather requires it, I use tractors parked on either side of the buildings to provide another line for tie off points perpendicular to the ridge. Belt and suspenders!!

A pair of approach shoes, used by runners, climbers have sticky soles & help a great deal on metal roofs. I manage a flyshop & naturally we have wading boots with different soles on them ho help wade what we call "rock snot" rocks in a stream.
You can also take some Acetone to a rubber sole & make it tackier to stick to the metal. My shop roof is on 4/12, i'll typically wear a pair of wading boots or sandals to get on it.
