Virus hoax

Those senders weren't actually the senders. The virus not only sends itself to every contact found on the infected machine, it also takes these contacts and throws them into the "From" header.

So the sender of these messages was someone who had these addreses in their contact list. Confused? (I am)

I'm no longer confused, even though this is about as clear as mud. You are correct. After reading up on this particular virus, I now understand that the virus randomly uses names from the infected computer's lists, then assigns random subjects and wings off the offending e-mails thusly.

I've tracked this one down to the offending computer (not any of mine) and notified the sender of their infection. I'm sure my note to them is about as welcome as a call from an ex-lover informing you of an STD!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I have had several new virus sent to my machine along with that snow white thing that has been around awhile, all in about a two week period. I became so perinoid that when I received the hoax, I too deleted the windows file. I did put it back however. Thursday night I was surfing for a decent frost-proof faucet for my house and caught some trojan virus called POPUP that makes windows keep popping up like a **** site (no I don't use them). My McAfee enging grabbed it immediately and I deleted the thing.

Like the others, I check symantec or do a web search for these messages (hoaxes)... However, a good rule of thumb is that if it tells you to "forward this to everyone you know", then, it's a hoax!
