Victory at last!

A tree man offered to grind this stump, remove the roots, and leave the ground ready to seed for $150. The only mistake he made was telling me I would get this out with my 18hp "garden tractor". That's all I needed to hear. Of course it took me about 20 hrs and cost me a drawbar and 2 days worth of back pain. But it's all worth it, right /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

So what happened to the drawbar?

It's a TSC model, but I'm suprised that it didn't outlast the chain I was using.

I messed up the ball joints on the 3pt ends a little bit to. I had to drive out the broken end of the drawbar with a hammer and grind out the inside of both 3pt ends so that the joints would swivel like they're supposed to.

The drawbar bent when I was pulling the big roots away from the tree. It finally snapped as I was trying to jerk out the stump. I had already cut all of the roots except the tap root.

The only thing left to do was to try the truck. I ripped up the tap root after a few good yanks in low range 4wd.

I have done similiar bullheaded things, still do sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think it would have been better to pay the guy and have a cold drink while you watched him /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

well i can tell by the way your drawbar is bent that the pull wasnt pulling in the proper direction on the drawbar, a drawbar is strongest across the wide direction, like if you have a clevis on it then you are pulling inline with it properly, but if you just wrap a chain around it then you can bend it like you did. i have a 105 hp tractor and with that i did bend one cat 2 tsc drawbar using it the proper way with a drawbar hook, but i later bought a better grade tisco drawbar and have never had a problem with it. that tsc drawbar woulda been fine on a 18 hp tractor had you pulled on it in the proper direction, its only strong in one direction, just like a 2x4 is alot stronger on edge than laying down flat.
