My best friend and 35 year companion died today. My wife fought ALS for five years and was lively up until yesterday. She said she was tired, went to sleep yesterday evening, and passed today. I was able to have a priest give her last rites late last night and she was happy to see him. Going forward, everything is a fog for me now. We’ve known that her disease was terminal, but still it hits hard.

No mere words suffice at these times. But I know from your description that she knew she was loved and safe with you there.

I can’t think of a worse disease. It’s indeed horrible and there’s no medical treatment to address the disease, just therapeutic treatments and devices to help them cope and handle daily living.
