About a week ago a very nice and nearly new dump trailer showed up about a block from my home... it has twin 6k axles, carrying about 2 yards of road base, rebar, wheelbarrows and shovels...

It caught my eye because the way it was parked with the hitch still attached to the tongue... someone had pulled the receiver pin and dragged the trailer about 50' on the tongue jack before the hitch pulled out.

Called it into the police and can only leave a message as they do not take vehicle calls live. Nothing has happened and I drive by it each day.

Had a law enforcement friend of a friend run the plate and it comes up stolen...

It would seem so simple... contact the registered owner and advise where the trailer can be found... apparently it does not work this way.

It is not in the jurisdiction of the officer that ran the plate... and procedure in my city is all vehicles are towed to impound first... guess no one wants to tow a 10,000 pound plus trailer and so it sits...

I'm surprised nothing has disappeared or been vandalized.

Maybe try the local donut shop in the jurisdiction and inform leo there. Make sure you get badge # and name/number of surperv call him if still there in couple of days.

Call your local news station. They love to embarrass the cops for not doing their job.

Well it's still there this morning... guess because it is big and heavy and loaded with rock...

I've seen cars sit for a couple of days and in no time they get vandalized... parts missing, windows smashed.

Had a couple of stolen/abandoned cars show up in the Hospital parking lot and each time I was able to contact the owners, they were most great full. Usually find a receipt or bill or registration and make a courtesy call to let them know the vehicle will be towed... not once did I have to tow when I could reach the owner.

It's a darn nice trailer... roll away tarp and all.

Insurance claim probably called in already by the owner. Have the towing company call for my address when they hook it!

We found a brand new mustang on our property about 15 years ago and called the Dealer to report it... it was brand new.

Dealer was actually annoyed because he had already turned it into his insurance company... dad insisted someone pick the car up that day because he was not about to have stolen property on his land...

When the owner and his son came out... they were actually mad at us because his Sunday plans were ruined...

I guess having insurance is one way not to deal with it...

Looking at the drivers background, one thing comes to mind. That is, has it come to this? Hire someone with a known criminial background because that is how desperate the driver situation has become? Guess you companies should have thought of this way back when.

Just my opinion, but trucking "sucked" back in the seventies when I got into it. Overall, nothing has changed. Poor planning, unrealisitic expectations (watch that BS show on Discovery) and greed. Who in their right mind would want to go "trucking".

With all the info out there today you would think there would be a way to look up that plate number and get an address to go with it.

For all you know the guy doesnt have insurance on it and would love to know where it is so he can come pick it up and not have to deal with paying some huge bill just to collect it from the impound.
