About a week ago a very nice and nearly new dump trailer showed up about a block from my home... it has twin 6k axles, carrying about 2 yards of road base, rebar, wheelbarrows and shovels...
It caught my eye because the way it was parked with the hitch still attached to the tongue... someone had pulled the receiver pin and dragged the trailer about 50' on the tongue jack before the hitch pulled out.
Called it into the police and can only leave a message as they do not take vehicle calls live. Nothing has happened and I drive by it each day.
Had a law enforcement friend of a friend run the plate and it comes up stolen...
It would seem so simple... contact the registered owner and advise where the trailer can be found... apparently it does not work this way.
It is not in the jurisdiction of the officer that ran the plate... and procedure in my city is all vehicles are towed to impound first... guess no one wants to tow a 10,000 pound plus trailer and so it sits...
I'm surprised nothing has disappeared or been vandalized.
