Without a Verizon Mobile plan it is $60 PLUS taxes and fees. So it will come close to the $80 I am paying for Ubifi right now..... I see no reason to change what works unless there is significant savings. The $40 price point is only for folks who have a verizon cell phone. I do not as my cell is provided through work.

So for all that time and cost what speeds are they saying they can give you?

The time on my part was a few phone calls, the monthly cost is less than the satellite and anything is better than the tin can and string speeds that I get now with no weather problems. The $1450 is trivial in my thinking but it will pay for itself (monthly savings) in 100 months or 8.33 years and I'll actually be able to watch YouTube or roku and upload a video, do that face time thing with the kids and my mom that's in a assisted living facility locked down with this china virus bs, ect. It's also my only option.

They did put in 2 "amplifiers" in this extension, and along the road part the coax that they ran back (from something they called a ?node) is lashed on to the fiber. The fiber is not accessible to the end user, just passing by.
They did guarantee some speeds that I have forgotten but at the time I asked someone that spoke that language and he said that was great. I hope so, but it won't take much to exceed the hughnet that we've been dealing with for about 10 years.

Actually, Spectrum was created when Charter & Time Warner cable merged. Comcast is still around.



Someone else upthread also mentioned their power company was running fiber, AFAIK nothing like that around here. Surprised more electric companies haven't gotten in on the action, especially since they're the ones who own most of the poles. ISTR a while back (early-ish 00s?) there was talk of power companies doing internet over power lines, but that apparently never went anywhere, though some PoCos do use the technology to monitor/ping meters, and probably control their substations, etc.

Years ago Comcast started talking about getting into phone service around here. The phone company responded by adding a coax cable everywhere they ran a new phone line and threatened to get into the cable TV business. Comcast backed out and the phone company never made the coax usable. I have one on the back of my house. The coax was just coiled up and left loose. The phone cable has been dead for a few years now and no plans to make it hot again. I was at the end of the DSL run and getting 1.5 down and zilch up.

We have miles and miles of NO coax in the ground. Nearest town is 10 miles away via hills, creeks, and woods. Coax will NEVER happen here. That's the situation with most rural folks.

Amen. Was so happy to find Ubifi. We get 20 down and 8 up. Enough to stream tv and do zoom meetings so I can work from home if need be.

Verizon Cube is working for me…

I’m not rural but might as well be with spotty cell and worse internet.

My Internet work around required 2 cell phones… one up high to use as a hot spot for the other… 1 MB

Seasonal business had a Verizon Cube and very pleased with it.

I borrowed it and for the last 2 weeks I have never been less than 8.5 MB and all I did was sit it on the table and turned it on.

It’s interesting as Verizon says not available here but so far so good.

8.5 MB may not sound like much but it is fast enough for my pages not to time out and reliably access the net.

Friends plan is a $35 Mo add on for the cube… no contract.

Any TBN cube users?

I have Verizon Home LTE internet. I do have to reboot the cube occasionally when the connection gets slow. Here is the before and after for this morning. Home LTE is throttled to 50 Mbps down. A Verizon phone at my house gets 200 Mbps down. Verizon only allows one cube per address. I am waiting for AT&T to upgrade to 5G here so I can get one of their home systems for the shop and have unlimited data there as well. It will replace the AT&T hotspot with a 50 gig limit we have in the shop now.
