Try and find you a tongue off a gravity flow wagon, they make some that have a mechanism that you can extend the tongue to hook it up then you back up and it locks and off you go. We had two when we were messing with corn and they are time savers and easy to hook up.

They are handier than a pocket on a T-shirt! I love mine.
Pull close, extend out and connect and jump on tractor. Back up and it latches automatically. And off you go.

Yes, Shaneard. The tongue DOES have that feature. It's just like the extendable lower links on my tractor. I get pretty close - extend the tongue - make the hook up - back up and "clunk".

I know exactly what you mean. With the weight of the tongue - every little bit helps when making connection. The wagon has set in that spot for over six months. The tires have settled into the soft dirt. There is NO WAY I'm going to move that trailer by myself to make any adjustments. Thank goodness for that extendable tongue.

I believe the extendable tongue is std. on a Horst gear, at least I haven't ever seen one without it...

You can still buy the spring and add it to your Horst gear... I love the way mine works...

Those of you with heavy trailers (10,000# +) that are bumper pull, do you use a load equalizing hitch?


I actually dove deep into this issue earlier this year when I was deciding on a new deckover trailer. Everything I read said I needed a weight distributing hitch but then I ran into a issue. You can’t actually find one for many deckover trailers. The reason is that all of them seem to be made for 6” and under frames. My PJ has a 8” I beam so it’s too large. Then I ask myself why would this be? If I’m supposed to have one then why can’t I find one? Well interestingly enough I called my local GMC dealer and local trailer supplier only to find out both said i didn’t need one for heavy duty equipment trailers on 3/4ton and up trucks. Still not convinced I called tech-support at PJ Trailers and again was it told the exact same thing except they went as far to say they didnt even recommend weight distribution or weight equalizing hitches for equipment trailers when pulled by 3/4ton trucks and up. They told me that normally weight distribution hitches are typically used in travel trailers of sorts and most commonly 1/2ton trucks and suv’s. Based on this I decided to proceed with the purchase and very happy with the outcome. Trailer is easy to use being a tag along plus amazing stable when pulling. That being said you do have to watch the tongue weight more than a gooseneck. But I carry the same exact loads over and over and I know exactly how to load them so it’s no issue at all to me. The new trucks and trailers are sooo much better than just 5-10 years ago that some of the old mindsets no longer are accurate. It’s almost unbelievable how effortlessly my new truck pulls 15k. If I had a 24’ enclosed trailer I would want a goose just because of side winds etc. But for what I’m doing the tag along is great.
