I am contemplating buying a utility size tractor for my next tractor purchase within the next year or two and was wondering why so many utility size tractors are built/manufactured in India? I know not all of them are but it seems like the majority of compact tractors (30-50hp) are built by Japanese and South Korean manufacturer's and once you jump up to the utility size (50-75hp) are mostly built in India except for a few like Kubota and Kioti.

Am I seeing this wrong? Are tractors built in India/Assembled in America really a less quality tractor vs Japanese or Korean? I looked at a new 2019 Deere 5065e 4x4 the other day and it seems to be a really nice well built tractor (better than the older 5e tractors I tried out a few years ago). There is more room for your feet, no big hump in the middle, the gas pedal is placed better and the loader joystick does not bump into my knee. It is also has a 12 x 12 power reverser with telescoping links on the 3pt. They redesigned the hood and you can see around the loader a lot better. The seat and operators station feels great too. Good ergonomics. I really want to like this tractor but I have read numerous reviews that are negative towards the 5e series after purchase. The price seemed very competitive as well.

I have also looked at NH Workmaster's and Kubota's M6060/7060 and liked the Deere more but these are all very nice machines. I am going to check out the Massey's also. I am not concerned with color and have plenty of good dealers close to me. I am just going off of what I like the best so far.

If I purchase a utility size tractor I will be using it mostly for loader work, grading/pulling jobs, bush hogging and any other miscellaneous jobs I might need to get done around the property. It will be a chore tractor to handle some of the bigger jobs where my NH TC40 falls short. I am in no rush to buy but thought I would get some opinions from the great folks on TBN, especially on tractors that come out of India.

I've heard not so good things about the 5065e. I don't know enough to know if it's just a case of the loudest minority, but I've heard way more negative about the 5E line in general than their competitors. I don't think country of origin matters as much as QC and how active a roll the selling company takes in the machine. JD doesn't want to sell 5Es. They want to sell 5Ms, or even 5Rs. The 5E line is built to a price and I think it shows. The 75C/Workmaster is what CNH has to offer at that size, so they're invested in it. Likewise, the M7060 rolls off Kubota's own lines, with all the checks that entails.

If you're choosing between the 75C and M7060, it becomes a question of what you're looking for in a tractor. The Case is heavy for this class of tractor. Which can be a good thing, if you're doing any tillage the extra weight helps, likewise it helps if you're making hay, a heavier tractor will get beat up by the baler less. On the flip side, the M7060 is kind of light. Great for mowing or other PTO work where you don't want that weight eating fuel and compacting the soil.

If you have the time to wait, the M4-71 is coming sometime this year, and sounds like a really nice upgrade to the already decent, if workman like, M7060.

I owned an Indian made Workmaster 50 for two years and had no issues. At 100 hours or so I had to tighten a radiator hose clamp. I have a very good dealer and they did a good pre delivery inspection. I really liked the tractor but was able to trade it in on a cabbed T4.75. It's made in Turkey.

The comments previously stated are spot on. I would shop dealership first. Any of the major brands you listed are good. It's all about the QC and pre delivery inspection. The dealership is critical. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

would you buy a car made in India? Its a third world country

Mexico is a third world country.
Would you buy a car made in Mexico?
Many brands/models sold in the USA are made in Mexico.

It's the assembled part that gets me, I keep hearing about quality control problems.

In that case, it doesn't matter how good the parts are...

Made or assembled?

We are a global economy, parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies are made all over the world and ship to the final assembly point.

The quality control with Massey is top notch. The plant is China is owned my AGCO, managed by AGCO, and operated by AGCO. It is a $300 mil state of the art plant.. Other companies like Deere and Case/NH have 3rd parties build their tractors. For example, Case/NH has Turk Tractor build their Farmall series tractors.

India and China both have more students in advanced classes than we have students. They are behind in a lot of things but there are plenty of smart people to help them figure it out.

I've had a chance to visit other countries (including 3rd world and Muslim, BTW 3rd world does not mean Muslim or vs.). Before I went I had a pre-concieved notion as to what I would see based on what I'd been told by the US media and other US sources. That did not turn out to be the case. There are very skilled, talented, and intelligent people in every country I've visited, and vast majority of them were welcoming. You just have to be sure to get something that is done by the right company that has the high standards that you're looking for.

Then, why do I keep reading about buyers having quality control problems with them?

I like/own AGCO products, but there's no excuse for having quality control problems, unless it's because of the people who build them, and that's happening in china.

I have not heard of any. Have not had one issue with mine. My dealer is first rate too, so maybe it's in the PDI.

Only the Political system and Law Enforcement is third world in Mexico.

I would say that India is a GREAT place to build tractors. Whether any given manufacturer is interested and invested in producing a high quality product is the question.

That's the reason Microsoft years ago opened up a software development company there. They've also discovered that indians have a genetic propensity for mathematics. Don't forget that indians have invented the 1st sundial over 3,000 years ago and it still keeps time measuring it every 2 seconds.

Funny, they can make a sun dial, but not realize that the sun fades cheap red paint.

That's right - it is greatly dependent on quality control. Does anyone remember US cars of the 70's? I remember 2 yr old Vegas with door panels rusted through. The Ford attempt at a rolling Molotov cocktail - the Pinto. And quality control was such that one dreaded buying a car made on Hangover Monday or Party Friday.
