Thanks again for taking the time to share your input gentlemen!! sure is nice having the board and plenty of guy's willing to share their experience.
Yup the wife is a keeper for sure! in fact I told her we needed to get a harrow for HER horsy corral and riding ring, so I just got home from a 3 day trip to Central America and a harrow was in the driveway !! God bless her!! I just wish I could be home more.

Could you lend her out for next weekend? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Tell her I really need a post pounder to pound in the supports for the boardwalk across the marsh. Also, I need that subsoiler - it would be great to rip the soil before planting the apple trees next spring. I've tried to convince my CFO, but haven't had any success changing her mind that these are needs, not wants.

I have the Landpride PHD25 (one step up from the 15) and its a nice unit. I use a 12" bit for fence posts, it works great. I did not want to shell out for multiple bits ($$$) and I figured 12" would do 90% of what I need. I use 6" round posts. I put concrete in the holes of the end posts, so those really have to be 12". I recommend getting the Landpride stand for it. It's a great solution for storage and probably cheaper if you get it at the same time.

I would suggest you think about a pounder. When I was researching a PHD I came accross may suggestions of which included a post pounder which can be rented. I asked a farmer who lives near me and he would'nt use anything but. My problem was that I was putting in pvc post and the pounder would have made a mess. I have a rhino sphd PHD with down pressure and it works great on my JD 4410 but it wasn't cheap, about $1700. hope this helps.

I just looked in my Landpride catalog and they also offer a hydraulic
PHD for oil flow of 5-10 and 8-15gph. Is anyone using one of
these. I have used a much bigger version on a 9000lb bobcat once and
that set up was nice, it was mounted on either the loader or
backhoe and being hydraulic it would just slip if it jammed into a rock
and you back it out using reverse.

I haven't any conventional PHD's with even a clutch. A shear
pin had to be designed by someone who lived on farm land as
in much of the real world they are pointless unless you have
time on your hands.

Now that I have two tractors I can now hold the post up while I backfill it with the backhoe. Still much slower then
nice holes though!

Most of my property is unuseable with a conventional PHD at
least in my experience, (potatoes, melons, and watermelons)
