I've got a B7510HST with a toothbar on the bucket. I was going to weld hooks to the bucket for lifting with a chain but I have a question. Is there any reason that I can't turn the bucket so the teeth are pointed up, then wrap the chain around the teeth and lift?

Although I have used my toothbar to lift in the past. I would NOT recommend it. It moves the weight farther out on the bucket causing more stress on the structure. It is not the strongest point to lift from and it is far more likely the chain can slip off the tooth than it would from a chain hook.

Properly welding hooks on your bucket is no big deal…. Why take any chances?

Just my opinion,

From the practical side, probably not. But doing so is a pain, as compared to just slipping your chain into grab hooks.

And the grab hooks do hold the chain. Wrapping the chain around a tooth gives opportunity for the chain to slip off.

Weld the hooks on your bucket. You will NOT be disappointed. Personally I like a slip hook in the center and grab hooks on each side, in front of the loader arms. Others like different set ups.

In my experience hooks are far superior to bucket teeth when it comes to securing a chain to the bucket.

I love me bucket hooks...

Using the teeth per se...you do lose some of your "lift" capabilities! I dont have/use a tooth bar.. ( hooks on top of the bucket)...but do often tilt the bucket DOWN...hookup..and roll the bucket back..lifting the object..then with a small amout of ACTUAL lift..Im home free.

If you use the tooth bar...the bucket will already be in the "rolled up" posiiton..at least to a great extent ( for the chain to be retained)

I just bought the John Deere Backhoe Safety Video.

They recommend against using backhoe bucket teeth to lift a chain, in favor of a welded hook.

I think the same advice goes for FEL buckets and toothbars.
