I am about to buy a used tree puller. Is there anything I should be worried about in using this on my hydraulic system for the first time? It looks to be on the new side, as does the guys newish looking Kubota. I am probably over thinking this... right?

Since you know the history of it, more or less anyway, I wouldn't worry too much and would just run it. He is probably using SUDT2 on his Kubota, I would imagine.

If it was something that had no history, I would probably spent some time draining as much of the old oil as possible.

I would only be concerned if it’s being used on old equipment. If it’s a new tractor with new fluid plug it up and go.

I asked this question here one time when I was looking at a tree puller where the hydraulic lines were open and didn't have couplers on them allowing any rain to get in the system. If it has couplers, that shouldn't happen. Any dirt in there could depend on whether he cleaned the connections before connecting the puller. Is the seller the original owner or did he buy it used?

Good question. But with the little amount of wear it has on it I doubt it is that old, or abused.

If the couplers are good, not open lines, probably not an issue. Wouldn’t take much to flush a cylinder but if he used it recently with a newer Kubota I wouldn’t worry too much. Enjoy your new puller! Grip low, lift, then drive forward or back to pull trees out. Your right weather and seasons makes a difference when pulling trees. Privet anytime. You’ll learn quick.
