Used Value vs Age

Ah, do I detect a smidgeon of humanity over “efficiency”? :)
Progress is underway!

Nah no progress.

That has always been there.

You just couldn’t see it over the labels that have been slapped on me in this thread without sufficient investigation into who I am and what I truly believe.

Asking questions helps you learn a lot…

And the replies you have received opened your eyes. Not everyone can buy new “efficient” equipment.

Again you didn’t understand my posts and still don’t understand me.

I’m a used vehicle/equipment connoisseur.

In fact I’ve only ever bought one brand new road legal vehicle in my life, a motorcycle, 15 years ago.

I was simply pushing back on false statements especially regarding cars/trucks.

You learn a lot about the shortcomings of older vehicles when that’s what you usually own and you are honest about it.

So if I told you I own 3) 1 year old vehicles and 5) 10-20 year old vehicles/equipment and several other non-vehicle pieces of equipment ranging from 1-25 years old, what would my level of vehicle/equipment connoisseur be? Especially ones used to make a living? I bet even you would believe I know a bit about new versus old. :)
Might be interesting to you: The new “efficient” vehicles (3 different brands) in the first year have had at least 7 recalls and campaigns to fix electronic and 1 or 2 non-electronic issues. Most are software issues that the average owner cannot fix.

I’ve tried to make it more “efficient” by using TBI fuel injection. I liked the old style carb look. I’ve discovered that 80’s tbi technology is already obsolete. I purchased new direct injection, fuel rail, multi port blue tooth ECM with it own wireless tablet. Very modern ( and cool) looking. After learning how it all works, I will be able to tune my engine to work perfectly for best fuel mileage or high performance driving. I will be able to monitor all sensors from the tablet as well, in case one of them should fail. I’ve yet to get started on the new system install. There is going to be a bit of a learning curve for me.

I just got a little frustrated hooking up the video game console for the little ones. USB, micro USB, USB 2.0 (5v), USB-C, San-disc micro SD, still need controller batteries for wireless, and me saying OMG!
Throw a six pack carb on it! Lol

Fer y'all that use batteries you can use a battery charger to
recharge the small batteries like AA, AAA, D;, C works great
and it don't cost me a penny cause I have solar
I don't need a neg's because this works!!

I don’t know what’s in the “hearts and minds” of the manufacturers dumping all the computer controlled technology in these tractors, but it is revealing when they quit working and you have no chance fixing them.
Related, I put a brand new $39,000 New Holland RB450 round baler into service this year. On bale number 1, it was getting close to making a full bale and the digital monitor in the cab was acting strangely.
I decided it was best to manually wrap the bale and call the dealer. They sent a service truck out and the tech couldn’t figure out the problem. New Holland sent a manufacturers rep out and found the on board COMPUTER controller was defective. It was fixed under warranty. The cost was not disclosed, but the dealers tech said it was north of $2,000.
Not a huge repair for my size operation, but if it was out of warranty, I’d be out over $2,000.
Had the same issue with my 450 when I bought it and the monitor was defective and replaced. Thank goodness I had a 638 with manual electric twine tie as a spar to use (my trade in). Was slow but better than nothing. I like NH round balers so much I ordered a new Kubota (Kneverland).

My local NH dealer reminds me of the blind leading the blind.

The "best of both worlds" is having a relatively modern, pre tier-4 tractor for most of the work, and an old, easily serviced, good parts availability one for backup. That's what I do with my 2005, John Deere 4120, and 1951 Ford 8n. For the last 16 years, there has never been a job I couldn't get done because my tractor(s) were broken down.

With that pair, I dont suppose there will ever be a need for me to purchase a post tier-4 tractor. Certainly their efficiency is still lagging that of the JD 4120.
