used l2850 implements question

GUys, posted in pricing forum but it looks quiet so here it is...

Looking at picking up this private sale 1986 4WD with just under 1800hrs.

Starts nicely, runs very strong. cosmetically a 6 out of 10. New paint would bring it to a 8.


Anyway, all the pins seem loose. the BF 500 FEL and the 4560 BH are pretty sloppy.

I have it at $8500 and I'm concerned the cost in breathing some new life into this is gonna be prohibitive vs finding one w/implements in better shape.

Any advice? I plan on deciding this week.

Horse trading 101: Talk to a dealer - estimate the value of the repairs to bring the machine up to snuff and use that figure as a negotiating point. $8,500 seems a little high for a 23 year old machine with 1800 hours but then again I don't know what it should be. I assume you've done some comparison shopping?

yes thats a good negotiating tool, but dealer cost for repairs would likely be close to half of asking price...

I have looked around online and on local wholesalers and c-list and pricing seems to be 7500-10000 for tractor only on the low end and tractor + FEL only on the high end.
