I have no idea how useful or necessary that ship is to the US Navy. My guess is that's its primary mission would be carrier group protection?

Let's hope it doesn't get burned up like the submarine USS Miami did in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (which is actually in Kittery, Maine) because an idiot wanted to get off work early to see his girlfriend.

The Navy should have specified clear paint instead of gray, to make it harder to see. A real stealth ship should look like a hole in the water.

The Air Force stealth fighter does it right.

I have a question. What about surveilance by Satellite? Stealth doesn't seem to be much of an advantage if it can't elude this tracking method and the Satellite's capability of detailed Photos, position to the exact point of Latitude and Longitude. Just a thought. It would be far better to have this Technology on all our SUBS. Just a thought.

Dont have the time to dig them up now but there are some cool videos of her construction including the marriage of the superstructure to the hull. She really is state of the art.

Even so, our military is being gutted. Troops are deployed over and over and over again. Qualified generals are being purged. We currently have only 2 combat ready brigades!

Only today, China released news stories about its ability to devastate the US. Iran is still plugging along on its quest for nuclear weapons - likely will have weapons grade material within weeks. Russia is making us look completely impotent in Syria. The list could go on and on.

Toys are cool - but patriotic leadership would be even better. Sadly, there is just about none of that left in our government.

One reason for this is that the US can not afford to be the worlds police force. GWB did not check the bank balance before starting 2 or 3 wars that we had no money for.

How so, Mate? People probably said the same thing when the first ironclad was built, or the first Dreadnought, or the first aircraft carrier, or the first nuclear powered submarine, or... well, you get the idea.

Superior technology will win out in a conflict. It also makes the other guy (whoever that may be in the future) have to play 'catch up'. WWII RADAR, ASDIC (later SONAR)and HFDF were the Allies big advantage at that time. The Cold War lead to missile tech, anti-radar tech and just keeping emission-silent to avoid detection.

The ocean is a vast place in which to hide... and ships are not stationary. Back during the Cold War, as it is today, I wanted as many advantages on my side as I could get.

The French, Americans and Russians equipped with the latest high tech. Have all lost wars in Vietnam, Korea and the entire Middle East. To peasants wearing sandals carrying just AK47's and RPG's.
