Here is a short video about Evan's the commander of the USS Johnston. I note some inaccuracies in it, but they are minor.

Read the book “Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors” by James Hornfischer. Leyte Gulf is an amazing story.

Drachinifel is my go-to guy, but when I have the strength to keep up with the pace Dr Alexander Clarke is another. They are both very well read, just don't write much. (There's a lot more to YouTube than watching 'Karen freakouts' and stupid drivers)

I’ve read a lot of WW2 history and bounce around a lot on topics. I know the story the OP posted about but haven’t read anything specific about. There was 3 different battles taking place all about the same time. The Japanese were beaten badly at 2 of the 3. The one the OP posted about was a tactical victory for the US since they turned back.
