US DOT Considering requiring CDL for Tractors

Have a CDL since 1968 so I'm covered on my unregistered tractors!
If 14 year old farm kids can run tractor trailers for harvest shouldn't they also run the school buses during the off season? They have to go to school anyways, would save small bucks for the school system by not having to fund bus drivers. :confused2: MikeD74T

The "Farmers Pride" publication here in Central Ky is out today with proposal the US DOT has issued recommendations for putting CDL requirements on drivers of tractors on the highway. IMHO, This is the most absurd idea the Gumment has come up with in days. You may want to help knock this down before it gets rolling. Ken Sweet

About 30 years ago I had a great adventure with a cab over Pete that was about 14,000. It was only a two-axle rig, but I have a hard time imagining a 3-axle conventional going over 26k.

Same engine & tranny, add a few feet of frame rail and a second differential and set of wheels. This is not going to double the weight...

The heavier of typical single axle trucks today are ~33k. Most tractors are over 26k.

Tandems are ~ 54K

I am talking GVWR, not GVW.
