Upgrade time - Confused on 2320 or Kubota B3030

2305JD,

The 2320 is a very nice machine, the one negative to some, if you mow on slopes, you may have to use low-range (there's almost no hill it won't climb in low) which is geared differently than on the 2305 (slightly faster). However, this may be slower than you wish to mow. Other than that, the 2320 in high-range really scoots along, probably 4-5 mph faster than the 2305.

As for the Kubota, that 3030 is one nice tractor. 4 cylinder and 3-range hydro are really nice features and the cab with the smaller footprint is sweeeet! :)

Okay folks I just got back from the local Kubota store and saw a B3030. It is way to big for my needs. I have a feelin cutting grass with that in my residential setting would be tough.

I did learn that Kubota is coming out with a new line which will hit the stores next week. I am going to look at a B 2620 (2hp) and a B2920 (29). They have a comparison chart and these 2 compare to the 2320 and 2520 respectively. They will come with the drive over deck and curved boom design on the loader. sound familiar? I guess the Kubota engineers have been spending some time on the "green" forum.

Anyway, pricing is also comparable to the JD so I am just going to hold off a week, since it's so close. I did notice faster hydraulic flow and ground speeds on this new line up vs. the JD 2320.

Thats it for now...

One thing that always cofused me with the orange HST tractors....the HST pedal and the brake pedals are both on the right side. Seems that would make it somewhat difficult to pedal steer with the brakes....your right foot can only do so much at one time. I think there is a PTO clutch pedal on the left side...so I guess that is why they do what they do. If I were a Kubota engineer and wanted to stay with that type of PTO clutch, I would consider a lever instead of a pedal.

I seriously looked at orange before making my decision to go with a green 2520...the above mentioned had a lot to do with my decision.

As far as my wife was concerned....they were all $-GREEN-$...?:)
Fastpauly the PTO lever is up on the fender of the 2630's and 3030's, not on the floor.

On Thursday and Friday last week I rented a B26 series? A new unit with about 150 hours on it while my 110 tlb is in the shop. Seems like a good unit but it did have all the pedals on the right side, thought that was wierd.
Worked well enough for finish grading but not sure whether it would tend to roll on a steep slope. Other than being smaller the little Kubota did a good job for me this week.

All of the prior tractors I have all have planetary final drives has any one had problems with the spur gear drives? I am a little concerned about this and have checked to see spur gear on JD 2000, bevel gear on 3000 and planetary gear on 4000 and up.

I am thinking about adding the 2320 or 2520 to get in the tight spots and around the trees do they seem to work well for this?

Jenkinsph,

I use the 2320 with the 62D mower. I find it has a much tighter turning radius than my much smaller 1250 Cub Cadet garden tractor with a 44" deck. I like the 2320 much better for getting close to landscape beds, trees, etc.

On trees with low limbs, you'll have to fold down the ROPS.

Joe, thanks for the reply. Right now I have the 110tlb with Laurin cab and an older ( but restored) JD820 utility tractor with a canopy top and a JD L130 riding mower with 48" deck. I am thinking about purchaseing smomething smaller to fit between the mower and the tractors. I looked at the 3520 last week and felt it was a little too big for my needs in close quarters and is too close in size to the other units I have. So maybe a 2320 or 2520 would fill the bill the dealer did not have one in stick the day I was there. I am interested in ehydro for manueverability and 3 pt finish equipment to smooth the ground for planting grass. Trying to get something to fit between the trees to reduce the amout of hand work. What do you think?

2305JD,

Check out the discussion on the Kubota buying forum about the 2620 & 2920. I think you'll find the pricing is very competitive - with a bit more hp and a lot faster cycling times for the Kubotas. There are two issues that keep coming up in favor of the JD... position control (vs. Kubota's quarter-inching) and split brakes on the left (Kubota requires you use cruise control to make use of the split brake that's on the same side as the hydro pedals). If neither of these are of concern to you, the new B-series looks like a great value - and you get 3 transmission speeds to boot.

Steve,

I don't want to hijack OP's thread too badly here. ;)

One reason I bought the 2320 was its maneuverability for residential finish mowing and also for squeezing through tight places in the woods.

I like the ehydro a lot more than I thought I would. I was used to gear tractors. I use the 2320 mainly for mowing, FEL, and plowing snow.

The 2320's 3PH has true position control, which the 2305 (smaller frame but same engine) lacks. Depending on your finish equipment, that may make a difference to you. The 2305 may be more maneuverable in tight quarters, but it didn't have enough ground clearance for me.

The 2520's maneuverability should be almost idential to the 2320, but with a tad more capability and power.

Based on the info in your post, the 2320 is definitely worth looking into. I'm not knowledgeable on the other brands.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info on 2320. My experience is limited to about 60 hours of use!

Sounds like the 2320 is the one for you. I would recommend going larger (2520), if possible, more power, more power!

I got the 2320 for use in the woods here in Washington state. I had rented a Kubota B21 before and it was not near as stable going through the woods as the JD 2320. Plus, the hard top is a problem on the B21 (bangs into trees too easily and dents itself). The 2320 is narrower than the 2520, but has the ground clearance that the 2305 lacks, so I think it's perfect for in the woods. Ony reason to go to 2520 is if you want really fast hydraulics.
