Buying Advice *UPDATE* Just tell me what to buy!

Anyways...I live in Northern Ca in the foothills of the sierras. Soil is actually decent. Only hit hard pan in a couple spots. No rocks or boulders.

I honestly don’t think I ‘need’ a 50hp or above right now. But who know what the future might hold. Everyone in my life that has a tractor, has had it for 15 plus years and they are all larger than compact tractors.

I would like to buy once cry once.

With that said, would the DK be a tweener or is it considered a bit larger than the CK.

My series DK is the next frame size up from the
ck.... It is not the same as the current DK!! It was also a deluxe tractor standard features with cab ...front and rear wipers heat, AC, sun visor, AM/FM cd player , tilt cruise, three cupholders, nice seat etc one rear remote, workliights F/R, mine is 3range hydrostatic...nice for loader work, if you roll into the pile, most can be done in mid rang,e not quite as fast as a skid steer but pretty good..rides a lot better:)

Properly ballasted...loaded tires and three point weight, will lift 2750lbs to full height...guarantee if your used to using real const equip.. don't buy a tinker toy..you said it. buy once cry once...don't know what else to say good luck to you! the NX would be the Minimum I would consider.

I look at it this way if you are operating most of the time at 70 to 75%, of capacity it is easier on the machine and safer...bigger more stable tractor.
And you still have the capability when **** hits the fan.
Instead of running on the ragged edge all the time....

I just purchased our family a house on 5 acres. It's got some hills, some pasture, some trees etc.

I work for a construction company and get almost free heavy equipment on the weekends. I've been working for a few months with full size excavators, skip loaders, rollers and backhoes. I have cleared a lot of the property, cut in a new driveway, removed trees/stumps and demoed concrete.

Most of the heavy lifting out of the way. I need a maintenance tractor for disking, mowing, grading, tilling, loader work,

Backhoe = $7,000.

Better to bring home a commercial T-L-B from work for digging once per year.

A compact tractor Backhoe will be a disappointment after what you are accustomed to.

I have the Kubota Grand L3560 HSTC. Been using it to help dad get the 80 acre family farm back into shape. I'm new into the tractor world, my dad was raised on the farm.

The cab has done a couple of things for me. I work Monday through Friday with about 80% time in an air conditioned office and then driving from job site to job site, doing audits and then back into a climate controlled car. So, I'm soft when it comes out to being in the weather. The cab allows me to go after work in the heat of the day and work outside and not risk my health. The next advantage is the bug control. This year has been especially bad for ticks and buffalo gnats, which neither bother me inside the air conditioned cab. We have been clearing brush ranging from a couple of feet to taller than the tractor. Finally, the older I get the more sensitive my nose seems to allergens. The cab and air conditioning dramatically helps with that problem.

So, as you can tell I'm a big fan of the cab. As far as what size tractor you need, I will leave that up to those with more experience. My 35HP has completed every task I have needed so far. Being a typical male, I would always like more horsepower, but at this point I haven't needed it and been unable to complete a task. The size of my tractor allows me to get into a few places that dad with his bigger tractor struggles. There are advantages to not going to big.

Anyway, just my two cents, with a very limited amount of experience.

I just purchased our family a house on a modest 5 acres. Itç—´ got some hills, some pasture, some trees etc.

The place hasn稚 been maintained in a long time so I have been fixing it up on the weekends. I work for a construction company and get almost free heavy equipment on the weekends. I致e been working for a few months using large equipment. Full size excavators, skip loaders, rollers and backhoes. I致e cleared a lot of the property, cut in a new driveway, removed trees/stumps and demoed concrete.

I致e got most of the heavy lifting out of the way and need a maintenance tractor for disking, mowing, grading, tilling, loader work, you know, a little of everything.

Im looking at compact tractors and everyone says theyæ±*e perfect for that and can do it all. I just have no idea what to expect as I致e been using 100+ HP machines and they have struggled at times to move dirt, stumps and concrete.

Should I be looking at a 45-55hp or can a compact 25-35 do it all?

And what痴 the consensus on cabs? I致e used both open and cabbed backhoes, the cab was quite nice.

I figure this will be the only tractor I will have for 15+years.

Just someone tell me what to do.

PS. I致e been looking at Kioti CK and DK models, Kubota B and L and that痴 it so far.

If you had your location listed in your profile it would make it much more simple to answer your cab question.

Maybe its just me, but it seems like people are trying to talk you into a pretty good sized tractor just because you are used to operating big stuff. You can buy to big. It also depends on what you want to do with the tractor. Will you mow with it and have a nice yard? Big stuff tends to tear up the yard mow. I live on three acres, and even if I had 5 acres I can't image needing more than a 25 to 35 hp machine.

I think your right. I shouldn’t need a bigger tractor for my current property. I guess I would like to have the option to go ‘work’ with my tractor if friends or neighbors needed it. The homes on my street are 20 and 40 acre rolling hill pastures with some livestock. If they wanted to hire me to do disc or mow there fields, I’d like to be able to take advantage of that. Or if I ever move to a larger piece of land, I wouldn’t want to buy another tractor.

I guess I’m answering my own question. I think I would like a larger general purpose size. If I had to stock with one brand, is the Kioti DX big enough to disc a 10acre field with or would you want an NX?

The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.

Heavier tractors with large diameter wheels/tires have more tractive power pulling ground contact implements, pushing a loader bucket into dirt and pushing snow. Larger wheels and tires permit heavier tractors to bridge holes, ruts and tree debris with less operator perturbation.

To pull a Tandem Disc Harrow with pans 20" in diameter a 4-WD open station tractor with a bare tractor weight of 3,700 pounds having 35 to 40 horsepower is about minimum.

To pull a more effective Tandem Disc with pans 22" in diameter a 4-WD open station tractor with a bare tractor weight of 3,700 pounds with liquid filled rear tires, adding about 700 pounds rear weight, having about 40 horsepower is about minimum.

Love my bh92 backhoe. Very handy to have.

Interesting, so my Kubota Grand L3560 (weight is listed as 3880) and I have the tires filled (around additional 800lbs) would be enough weight wise to pull the disc. (Yes I'm new to tractors and still learning.)
