We will contact the owner of 2001 John Deere 4700 but dropping its price by 10K seems unrealistic.
Still thinking that’s way too much for a machine that’s 23 years old. I’m assuming that you’re talking in the $30 thousands.

Here is a 2021 John Deere 4044m for $25,990 Listed 4 days ago 4 days ago in Hudson, WI. Seem like a better price!

Don't know your market, but I've seen a couple mid-late 90s MF-231 2WD w loader machines online, for less than $8000. Unless I'm mistaken, which I might be, I thought all of the MF 231s were dry clutch shuttles, which is better than the hunt and peek JD-790s I've seen.

Edit: according to Google, I'm wrong, it says all 231 and 231S are 8x2 sliding shift; but I swear a contractor I worked with had a dry clutch shuttle 231. Maybe it wasn't a 231

I know it's not your area probably, and there isn't anything wrong with JD, but when we are in the $20-30k used tractors, there is a lot more machine when you include non-JD in the search. The link is a 49hp, syncro-shuttle, with like 350 hours, 4wd, loader, and 3 high value impliments.

Not only preaching MF, just saw a very low hours, 2018 Mahindra 4540, but it was hunt and peek trans, for $23k, including bushhog. Another 4540 for $17.8k, no impliments.

If we just like Green, JD-3032e, HST, loader,1767 hours in Lakeland for $12,900.

There likely is a reason that JD carries value longer and often higher than the other brands. Some like that, some do not. But it seems an undeniable fact.
Everyone has to make the decision for themselves.

Locally found a 2001 John Jeere 4700 with less than 200 hours on it AND is hydrostatic. Asking over 30K for it and looking at them on-line seems to be waaaaay to much.
A low-hour machine can mean several things and they're not all good. It may have spent more time in the shop than in the field. Or the previous owner couldn't use it--Too big for his use, didn't understand the mechanics and/or abused the heck out of it.
