Underhood temps of my BX

Try blowing out the rad with a air gun, and see if that helps. I do that after every mow, and my gauge reads very consistent. I find waxing it helps it run cooler as well, but that may just be me. LOL

Totally agree. Not with waxing bit, but cleanout the debris screen and blow and flush out the radiator fins until the water runs clear, especially after hard mowing. Dandelions and chopped thatch will quickly block off air if you don't keep the rad clean, resulting in the symptoms that you describe..

Check to see if your temperature sensor/sender is right next to the exhaust manifold as it is in the BX-1850, if so, that's why it is reading high and the engine temperature is not actually as high as the gauge indicates. If the needle remains in the normal operating range and does not go into the red, there is not much you can do warranty wise.

Nice work with the install of the 2nd gauge. I too would want to have it to compare readings for a more accurate result. An IR can get the same results, but it isn't going to be there like the dash installed gauge.

hehe, wonder how much a IR gun was back in 2006? Probably not $20 at HF! :)
