I don't go through enough diesel fuel to justify having my own tank, so I buy (taxed) diesel from the pump and take it home in fuel carriers (for my tractor). Understanding that there is a whole new set of emmission standards that will apply to 2007 and later on-road vehicles, can I use this same ULSD in a 2007 Chinese tractor with an EPA approved engine? Or is there a difference between the on-road ULSD and what might be required to feed a 2007 off-road engine?

You can use ULSD in any diesel engine, be it American, Chinese, Japanese, or German made (apologies for leaving any country out). According to the EPA and the Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance :

The "Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance," an industry group consisting of oil and gas producers, engine manufacturers, the American Petroleum Institute (API) and others, states that "engine and vehicle manufacturers are not anticipating that existing [diesel engine] owners will have to make changes to their equipment to operate [on] the new fuel.
A small number of vehicles may require preventative maintenance in the form of upgrading certain engine and fuel system seals that may not perform well in the transition to the new fuel and could leak. Studies of test fleets have indicated that fuel system leaks are not exclusive to a particular engine type, fuel type or geographic region. It is anticipated that only a small fraction of the vehicles will be affected."
A leak in your fuel system can be dangerous, potentially causing fires to occur if diesel fuel comes in contact with hot engine parts. It is recommended that you consult with your vehicle manufacturer for advice about maintaining or replacing the fuel system seals in your vehicle.

In other words, use it and be happy. If you have concerns then use some additional additive like Power Service.

BTW, soon, if not already in your area, all you will be able to purchase, either on- or off-road will be ULSD.

Greg,
As I understand, and what I have read over at the oil, fuel and lubricants section, the ULSD will be fine to run in the new 2007 EPA approved engines. It has been noted however, using Power Service or some other additive to give you associated benefits (including added lubricity) and peace of mind. Pretty soon, ULSD will be all you can get so the new engines better work on it.;)

I am not looking for an additive solution, but thanks. I already use Power Service in both my KAMA and in my Mercedes. This is more of a rhetorical question, so let me rephrase; I know that on-road passenger diesels sold as 2007 models will work with the new ULSD without additives. Can/will the new EPA-compliant engines in Chinese tractors sold as 2007 models be able to use on-road (taxed) ULSD without additives too?

I have been using Bio diesel in mine for some time without any known issues. My local gas station only sells bio diesel.

Unless there's a very significant cost advantage, I think that would make me want to drive a little further down the road for conventional diesel fuel. Because of the lower BTU rating of bio-diesel, it's not simply a matter of comparing price per gallon anymore. It gets down to figuring price per BTU now - to see which is less expensive by the time it gets through the exhaust pipe.

I did read though, that using bio-diesel where you've previously used conventional diesel is like giving a laxative to your fuel system. Reportedly cleans out the system so good that you soon have to replace the fuel filter

Just as an update: last night I stopped in to get some gas (pump has both gas & fuel) anyhow low & behold was a nice new sticker read something to the fact that they were now using the low sulfur 2007 fuel which was only rated in 2007 and newer engines :( now go figer that one. I guess it is a case of cover youre ***** on that one?

Model 2007 and newer engines MUST use ULSD. However ULSD will run fine all older engines. See the industry websites HERE and HERE for all the information you will ever want to know.

Additionally, the subject has already been discussed to death in the TBN Oil/Fuel/Lubrication forum.

But not with respect to 2007 Chinese tractor engines, so please don't be so eager to dismiss this question. I'd venture there's not a soul on that Oil/Fuel/Lubrication board that owns an actual 2007 model year Chinese tractor. Hence, I posted my question here.
