Beauty is in the eye of the tinkerer. I sure like it.

Never seen anything like it. Not sure how I'd rate it on the "Beauty Scale," but on the "Interesting and Unique Scale" of things, I'd say it's pretty amazing.

Are you going to do a full restoration on it? Use it?

Eddie

Looks like a neat machine.
Based on your wife's reaction I would say that you should never again use the word cute to describe your wife.:D

My wife said the same about the D-12 I brought home. I think she will be surprised when she sees it at the end.

Nice old Bolens! I learned a long time ago that if a man goes out in the woods and says something and there are no women there to hear it, he is still wrong. :D :D

I love Heywood's avatar.

When I was a kid I worked at a lawnmower shop that sold Bolens brand tractors. We took in some really quirky old machines as trade ins that they made in the late 50s and early 60s. I loved the creativity of the design of these machines.

I hated working on them, though. More fun to look at !:D

I find that old stuff easier to work on than some of the new stuff.. At least i know I usually don't have to grab a metric tool set.. and there won't be much plastic on it....

Probably so. Back then it seemed like Bolens were harder to work on than, say, Simplicity tractors 'cause the Bolens has such a complicated design. For instance the Bolens tractors used a dry single plate clutch and the Simplicity just loosened the belt as a clutch. :D Cheap, but it worked well and for a long time.

I agree with your wife - ugly! But could be made to be "neat" !

Ah--they don't make 'em like that anymore.

A few months ago I bought a 1970s Bolens G1453 garden tractor with the pto-driven rototiller. Best $600 I've spent in a while.

Kinda reminds me of how cool, but definitely different looking, an A-C "G" is. They just so funky they have to be cool :D
