A few weeks ago I was driving home, as was the wife, and I would guess we were 20-40 miles apart. To our south, there was a plane doing a perfect turn in the sky and leaving a wonderful contrail. She could see it as could I which surprised me. The plane flew over some low clouds so we could not see if the plane did a 360 degree turn. It was really cool looking and I have never seen a plane that high do a turn like that before.

Some wing nuts in my county believe contrails are poisons being sprayed by the evil chemical companies. :shocked: I ain't kidding either.

Sometimes our unique distinction, having the power of reason, really complicates things doesn't it.

My two shop dogs are laying by the wood stove napping. Not a care in the World about all this.

Many animals exhibit the ability, however limited, to reason. Maybe we are unique in our ability to imagine, to synthesize? On the other hand, when your dog is gripping and shaking (killing) a stuffed toy, he may be imagining he has a rabbit. :laughing:

My thoughts are two-fold. I am a Christian, and I believe in the Creator. Everywhere we look there is balance and symmetry that points to creation. Are there anomalies? Of course. Our DNA is also degrading from the time of Creation, and that is why we are having more diseases and problems. Having said that, I HAVE to believe that if God created us, he could have created others. Will they look like us? No, because other planets have different gravities, gas compositions, etc. This leads to my second thought. If you do not believe in the Creation, but in full Evolution all the way from slimy ooze, you HAVE to believe that this could also take place on another planet. The creatures would evolve differently because of what I mentioned above. But you absolutely must believe that it can take place.

We have not even fully explored each and every corner of the Earth and especially the ocean depths, but new species are found daily. How much broader is the universe?

Yeah, I struggled with that power to reason thing most of my life. I watched many animals display what I thought was reason. But when you complicate the scenario they begin to show their limitations.

For example my youngest dog loves to hunt, kill, eat rabbits. Took him into his second Summer of rabbit hunting to reason that you must inflict inhibiting injuries to the rabbit BEFORE you release it from your grip. Many a rabbit escaped while he learned that.

The creatures would evolve differently because of what I mentioned above. But you absolutely must believe that it can take place.

Great point. So all who believe in Evolution as the sole means of life MUST believe in Aliens. No argument around that. Great point.

Can and must are two different things.

I can theorize that alien life likely exists while accepting that I don't know. Advancing that to must exist is more like expressing a belief since it fails to take into account what evidence exists, or not.

I confess to being a nitpicker. :laughing:

Some hard UFO evidence would certainly change the discussion. Can you mount a FEL on that thing? Diesel or proton?
