I just purchased a t300 with 700 hrs and can't get the pto to engage. There is power going to the solenoid and the magnet is engaging. I've cracked the hose and hydraulic fluid does start dripping out when pto is engaged. I've also held the pto shaft while my wife turns the pto switch on and off and I can feel a slight movement when she does this but it's not visible . Could the hydraulic valve be only partially opening and not sending enough fluid or does it sound like it's something more? Any other trouble shooting suggestions? I've ran jumper cables straight to the valve to bypass any possible electrical issues or drops in voltage and still nothing

I'm not familiar with that tractor in particular. But usually these compact tractors have a PTO lever to switch between two PTO speeds or between mid and rear PTO. Make sure they are engaged and not in Neutral.

No lever on this model. Just a push button and then a switch to go to manual or auto. The auto appears to be functioning properly because the pto light is constantly on until you raise the arms all the way, once you do that the pto light blinks.

I've been looking at the operators and service manual for your tractor and they do mention the PTO shift lever. Seems located near the hand brake, in neutral it would allow for free spinning of the PTO when engaging implements.

With the engine OFF, does it spin freely? or it's engaged and locked? Because the clutch pack of the PTO usually have a brake disk. When the PTO is off, a spring will apply the brake action.

Maybe it was just a factory option to have 2 speed PTO.

The symptoms you describe indicates to me that the gears are not engaged.

Here are the manuals.

Yeah I've seen some diagrams of the lever but mine just has a plate covering where the lever would come out so I guess it was an optional feature. It spins with engine off or running. I wouldn't say it spins real easily but I can turn on it one handed with some effort. It had a rod knocking when I got it which I thought was odd for something with that low of hours. I polished the crank and replaced the bearing and got it running good but it has me wondering if they were running something like a bush hog without a proper shear pin and hit something causing damage to the pto and engine. Idk I'm trying everything I can think of before I crack the whole thing open.

I'm with you on trying everything before open the thing. But since you mentioned about the rod knocking. I'm guessed it had an hard 700 hours before you got it.

You might have a burned PTO clutch pack. But let's try another thing first. Have you tried to take the spools out of the PTO valve block? Check if they have dirt or trash that can get the valve stuck open? It might have a flow control valve, a relief valve and the main solenoid spool that will engage the PTO.

My next step was to pull the valve block. Looks like it will be a PITA though. I've been at a stand still after having surgery on my finger but I think I'm about ready to get back in it
