I'm looking at buying a Farm Pro 2420 with a bad engine. The engine spun a bearing and has a head bolt stripped out. I realy don't want to deal with rebuilding the engine so are their any engines that are a direct replacement for the ty290. Thanks.

The TY290 block does not include things like cylinder sleeves, bearing journals in fact I cant think of any wear sufraces that would be included. Unless there is a crack or hole in the old block, this is one part that is probably not needed. I suspect a crankshaft, bearing carriers (that bold into the block after bolting around the crankshaft), cylinder liners etc would be needed. Unfortunately the factory that made the 2 cyl TY engine folded about 4 years ago.
Tommy does have some 2 cylinder parts but complete engines are not available. Anticipating your next question: Since the block makes up part of the frame on a tractor, the mounting for the front axle will not match up with the 3 cyliner that replaced the 2 cylinder in the 20HP Jinma... Homier would be the best source for an engine but I doubt they have any...

Thanks for the clarification Chip, I didn't realize that I had linked to a block only. I thought at one time that Homier stocked the short block, and obviously didn't pay close enough attention when I copied & pasted the link above.

Still might not hurt to give them a phone call though. Never know what they might have sitting in the warehouse.

Wow, bummer for those of us with the 2420's and the 2 cyl engine. So, I was hoping that if ours blows that i could put in the 3 cyl engine. Is that not possible without frame mods or ?

Steve you are correct,while there is a decent supply of TY290 parts still avaliable you would have to rebuild it,a change to the Y380 can be made but you also have to change the Creeper assembly,front pend.mounts,radiator,ect. Way too much cost for the conversion.We keep almost every part including crankshafts,Heads,pistons,bearings,sleeves,injector pumps, ect.These engines are pretty easy to overhaul if you had to.I just found the old foundry that was making the Creeper 1 for Jinma (the creeper II will not bolt up to that engine) and they are making me some Creeper 1 for my parts stock,I have been trying to get these for a long time and Jinma was not much help in outsourcing them.There are thousands of the TY290 engines out there in tractors,we are going to try and keep a good supply of parts

Sounds good. Glad to see someone is interested in keeping these 2 cyl engines going. So, does that mean that support from Jinma for their own 2 cyl production even in China has ceased to occur ? Or are they still supporting them there much like is done in the "home" country for production and all foreign support is shutting down (forcing you to buy a new one) ?
