For those interested in how the towers collapsed, there is a show on tonight (2/6) about the collapse. Anatomy of the collapse or some such. Discovery channel (or TLC, never can keep them straight). Problem is, 10:00. Heck I can barely stay awake past 8 at times.

I'm sure it will be sad, infuriating, etc., but also interesting. The engineer in me is interested in the how and why. I just hope it doesn't give some other sick SOB an idea.

Twin Towers ??

Hey nick, can't tape it on a VHS tape and pop it in the post for me ??

I'd love to see that show. Being the building type too.

Cheers

Neil,

Surprised that the chanels aren't available in OZ. Heck, I guess I know why. A goodly number of the shows are about OZ, and you all already know about your wonderful country.

Alas, I don't believe Muhammad has incorporated that option yet . Sorry.

We have Discovery Channel on pay TV, but alas I don't have pay TV. Is your Discovery Channel pay TV or free to air??

I'll have to suss out someone here with Pay TV but I doubt they'd be on the same nights !!

Cheers

It turns out that it is TLC (The Learning Channel); channel 280 on DirecTV. And Neil, those are both "free" channels on DirecTV.

No way I'm going to stay up to watch it tonight, and I haven't set the timer on the VCR in several years (hope I remembered how) and have never set the timer on the satellite receiver until a few minutes ago (so I hope I did that right, too).

So, if I do get a good tape, Neil, and you want to send me a private message with a mailing address, I'll send it to you after I look at it tomorrow.

Yes I scoured through our TV guide here (For Pay TV even though I don't have it) and saw nothing.

No wonder.

Bird that would really be great but we'd have to look at postage costs. I am not sure if you could send it COD or something, but I might end up with a rude shock when I collect it!!!!

Hang on, do you still have mates in the Postal Service ???

Hey when I get it I'll have to be careful, we had full-on Anthrax scares everywhere when you had yours, everytime someone got a parcel from the US !!

I'll open mine with a dust mask on.

On a serious note, let me know how the VCR goes and what postage may cost?

Cheers

PS - I am only 30 but recently bought a DVD player. Well, I used to be Mr. Gadget, but it almost had me buggered how to set the thing up properly. Well did I feel old then???

Cheers

Nope, they're all retired./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Can't even remember when I sent anything out of the USA, but had a look at http://www.usps.com at the International rates and looks like it would be somewhere between $5 and $45, depending on whether I wanted it to get there in 4-6 days or 4-6 weeks./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Anyway, as it turned out, I did stay up and watch the program as it was recording (I even had the timers set right)./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif So, if you want me to send the tape, just send me an address and I think it'll get there eventually./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Me too, Bird. What did you think of it?

Personally, it was less than I was hoping for. As with many such "specials", the actual new information I got out of the thing could have been condensed down to about 5 minutes. Didn't care for the dramatic music, either.

Have to admit, though, some of the footage brought back emotions of September 11th.

I agree, Harv, that it sure could have been condensed a lot, but there was, of course, a lot of information about how the building was constructed, how the elevators had to be arranged to avoid using too much floor space, etc. that I sure didn't know, as well as why they collapsed as they did (assuming their theory is correct, and it sounded good to me). I do remember thinking that the elevator I rode there was the fastest one I was ever in./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

When you get as hard of hearing as I am, you cuss all that blasted music that seems to accompany almost every film made.
